Staff Accountant - Hotels
GF Hotels and Resorts • Philadelphia, PA, US
Posted 1 hour ago
The Staff Accountant is a hands-on corporate accounting position supporting GF Hotels & Resorts' multi-property hotel accounting organization. The role completes assigned accounting processes and recurring deliverables accurately and on time while developing a broad understanding of hotel operations, cash management, the general ledger, balance sheet, P&L, and month-end reporting. The position is intentionally cross-functional. Staff Accountants will be cross-trained across operational accounting, corporate accounting support, property transitions and exits, tax and payroll support, and special projects.
The successful candidate demonstrates initiative, attention to detail, responsiveness, sound follow-through, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to supporting Controllers and the Accounting & Finance team.
Operational Accounting & Cash Management
Prepare and maintain assigned property cash-flow forecast files, including updating actual activity and supporting forecast assumptions.
Update assigned cash sheets with bank, accounts payable, check-run, and other relevant activity.
Prepare bank, cash, and credit-card reconciliations; research and document reconciling items through resolution.
Run and review applicable AP aging reports, support check-run requests, and follow up on open items as assigned.
Enter, review, and track checks and other banking activity; assist with positive-pay or bank-upload support when assigned.
Assist with expense reports, supplemental-pay or insurance-related postings, and other recurring operational accounting processes.
Investigate discrepancies between source systems, bank activity, supporting reports, and accounting records.

Prepare assigned journal entries, accruals, account analyses, and supporting schedules.
Prepare or assist with balance-sheet reconciliations and account roll-forwards.
Complete assigned month-end checklist items by established deadlines and record completion status accurately.
Assist Controllers with P&L review, balance-sheet review, and research of unusual or unexpected activity.
Retain sufficient support and explanatory notes so a reviewer can understand the work performed, open items, and required follow-up. Corporate Accounting & Organizational Support
Support the EVP of Finance, Vice Presidents, Regional Controllers, and Controllers with schedules, research, reporting, and follow-up.
Maintain assigned accounting organizational charts, property lists, P&L cover sheets, trackers, and document workflows.
Support internal-audit billing and tracking, legal-invoice allocations and payment tracking, and other corporate or property rebills as assigned.

Respond professionally and promptly to requests from Accounting & Finance, Legal, Sales & Marketing, Human Resources, property teams, and approved vendors. Payroll, Tax & Compliance Support
Assist with payroll accounting, payroll-related reconciliations, supplemental-pay activity, and wage-garnishment or payroll service rebills as assigned.
Assist with sales, occupancy, and other tax-related schedules, checks, reconciliations, and trackers.
Provide accurate supporting documentation for tax filings, audits, internal reviews, and other information requests.
Follow established approval, documentation, segregation-of-duties, and record-retention requirements. Property Transitions, Exits & Special
Projects
Assist with accounting activities for hotel transitions, openings, exits, wind-downs, and post-close properties.
Maintain assigned exit-billing, BAF, LMS, IBA, legal, or other transition-related schedules and trackers.
Assist with open-bank-account activity, outstanding AP, cash activity, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for exited properties as assigned.
Participate in process-improvement projects, systems work, data cleanup, financial research, and other special assignments.
Controller & Team Support
Provide flexible accounting support across multiple hotel properties and operating structures. • Work directly with assigned Controllers and Regional Controllers to clarify priorities, obtain information, and close outstanding items.
Provide temporary support for vacancies, transitions, peak workloads, and other business needs.
Participate fully in training and cross-training; maintain process notes and help develop or improve standard operating procedures.
Develop familiarity across multiple accounting areas rather than operating solely within one task category.
ACCOUNTABILITY EXPECTATIONS
Own assigned work. Take responsibility for the deliverable from assignment through completion, including follow-up and documentation.

Communicate promptly. Acknowledge assignments, respond during working hours, attend required meetings, and provide timely status updates.

Research before escalating. Review available source documents and systems, identify the variance or open question, and explain what has already been investigated.
Produce review-ready work. Ensure schedules, reconciliations, check requests, and trackers are accurate, supported, organized, and understandable.
Document open items. Clearly identify outstanding amounts, responsible parties, next steps, and expected resolution dates when known.
Learn and cross-train. Retain and apply training, maintain process notes, ask thoughtful questions, and build end-to-end process knowledge.
Understand the purpose. Connect task-level work to cash, the general ledger, financial statements, internal controls, and property operations.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline preferred, or equivalent relevant accounting experience.
