The Tax Law and Automation FirmRemote

Posted 20 hours ago

Tax Law & Automation (TLA) is seeking a highly skilled tax attorney with at least five years of experience who wants to work on sophisticated tax matters while enjoying the flexibility of a fully remote environment.

This position is ideal for an attorney who has developed a strong technical foundation and is looking for broader exposure to complex transactional tax work. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in M&A transactions, entity structuring and restructuring, tax planning, partnership taxation, and business advisory work, not solely tax controversy representation.

At TLA, attorneys work directly with business owners, executives, CPAs, financial advisors, and other professionals throughout the country. Our clients rely on us to deliver practical solutions to complex tax issues while serving as long-term strategic advisors.

This role requires 1,800 billable hours annually and offers the opportunity to work closely with firm leadership on matters that have a direct impact on clients' businesses and financial outcomes.

If you are looking for a position that combines sophisticated tax work, client interaction, professional growth, and the flexibility of a remote practice, we encourage you to apply.

What Makes This Role Different

  • Fully Remote Without Sacrificing Sophistication: Many remote legal positions involve repetitive work with limited client interaction. At TLA, you'll actively participate in high-value planning engagements, transactions, and advisory matters while working from wherever you are most productive.

  • Exposure to the Full Spectrum of Tax Practice: Our attorneys are not siloed into a single niche. You'll work across transaction planning, entity restructurings, tax advisory projects, opinion work, and selective tax controversy matters, creating a broader and more valuable skillset.

  • Technology-Driven Practice: TLA was built around the belief that technology and automation should support attorneys, not replace them. We continually invest in systems and processes designed to reduce administrative inefficiencies and allow attorneys to focus on high-value legal work.

Transactional Tax & Advisory Work

  • Advise clients on mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, and restructuring transactions

  • Evaluate and design tax-efficient ownership and entity structures

  • Draft and review agreements with a focus on tax consequences and risk allocation

  • Prepare technical tax analyses, memoranda, studies, and opinion letters

  • Research complex federal and state tax issues

  • Assist clients with strategic tax planning initiatives

Client-Facing Leadership

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to business owners and management teams

  • Lead client calls, strategy sessions, and planning discussions

  • Coordinate with accountants, financial advisors, valuation professionals, and legal counsel

  • Help clients evaluate alternatives and make informed business decisions

  • Provide practical recommendations that balance legal, tax, and business considerations

Required

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school

  • Licensed and in good standing with at least one State Bar

  • Minimum of 5 years of tax law experience

  • Meaningful experience advising clients on transactional tax matters

  • Experience with one or more of the following: M&A transactions, entity structuring and restructuring, partnership taxation, corporate taxation, tax planning, or tax controversy

Strongly Preferred

  • LL.M. in Taxation

  • Experience preparing tax memoranda, studies, or opinion letters

  • Experience negotiating or reviewing transactional documents

  • Experience serving as a primary advisor to business owners or executives

  • Comfort working in a technology-enabled environment

What Makes Someone Successful in This Role?

  • Business-minded – understands that legal advice should support client goals

  • Analytical – enjoys working through complex tax issues

  • Self-motivated – thrives in a remote environment with significant responsibility

  • Organized – manages matters efficiently and consistently meets deadlines

  • Client-focused – builds trust and communicates effectively with clients

  • Collaborative – works well with advisors, accountants, and legal professionals

  • Growth-oriented – continuously seeks to improve technical expertise and judgment
