We are seeking an experienced Senior Family Law Paralegal to join a growing North Carolina family law practice.

This is an opportunity for a seasoned paralegal who is confident managing a substantial caseload, understands the pace and complexity of family law litigation, and can serve as a trusted partner to the attorneys they support.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership of matters from initial case preparation through resolution. You should be able to anticipate deadlines, identify what needs to happen next, communicate confidently with clients, and keep attorneys informed without requiring constant direction.

This role is best suited for someone who has developed strong family law experience and is looking for a position where that experience, judgment, and initiative will be recognized and valued.

  • Independently manage active family law case files, deadlines, calendars, and case-related tasks

  • Draft and prepare pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, affidavits, subpoenas, notices, correspondence, and other legal documents

  • Coordinate and manage discovery, including gathering client documentation, organizing production, tracking outstanding items, and preparing materials for attorney review

  • Prepare attorneys for hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials by organizing exhibits, evidence, witnesses, pleadings, and supporting materials

  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of each assigned matter and proactively identify upcoming deadlines, outstanding issues, and necessary next steps

  • Communicate directly and professionally with clients regarding case-related information, documentation, scheduling, and procedural matters

  • Conduct client interviews and gather information and documentation necessary to move matters forward

  • Coordinate hearings, depositions, mediations, client meetings, service of process, and other case-related activity

  • File pleadings and other documents with the courts and ensure compliance with applicable filing requirements and procedures

  • Review case files regularly to ensure matters are progressing appropriately and deadlines are not missed

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and highly organized electronic case files

  • Collaborate closely with attorneys and other members of the legal team to ensure excellent client service and efficient case management

  • Assist with legal research and trial preparation as needed

  • Help identify opportunities to improve case-management processes, workflows, and overall team efficiency

  • Provide guidance and support to less-experienced team members when appropriate

Required

  • 5+ years of paralegal experience, with significant experience in family law

  • Strong working knowledge of family law litigation, court procedures, discovery, and case preparation

  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage a caseload and competing deadlines

  • Experience drafting family law pleadings, discovery, motions, correspondence, and other legal documents

  • Ability to anticipate attorney and case needs rather than waiting for assignments

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong judgment, professionalism, and discretion when handling sensitive client matters

  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Confidence communicating directly with clients, attorneys, court personnel, and other professionals

  • Ability to prioritize effectively and remain organized in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficiency with legal case-management systems, Microsoft Office, and related technology

Preferred

  • North Carolina family law experience

  • Significant experience supporting contested family law litigation

  • Experience preparing matters for hearings, mediation, depositions, and trial

  • ABA-approved paralegal certificate, North Carolina Certified Paralegal designation, associate degree in paralegal studies, bachelor’s degree, or comparable advanced paralegal education

  • Experience mentoring or providing guidance to junior paralegals or legal support professionals

Compensation

$80,000 - $90,000 yearly
