Senior Family Law Paralegal – Raleigh
Marshall & Taylor, PLLC • Raleigh, NC
An Opportunity for a Senior Paralegal to Take Ownership
Marshall & Taylor, PLLC is a growing North Carolina family law firm dedicated exclusively to helping individuals and families navigate some of life's most difficult transitions. Our reputation is built on exceptional legal representation, outstanding client service, professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to excellence.
We are seeking an experienced NC State Bar Certified Senior Family Law Paralegal to join our Raleigh team.
This is a position for a paralegal who has developed substantial family law experience and is ready to be a true partner to an attorney.
The right candidate will be capable of independently managing the day-to-day needs of a substantial caseload, staying ahead of deadlines, preparing cases for hearings and trial, communicating confidently with clients, and anticipating what the attorney needs before being asked.
You should know your cases. You should know what is coming next. And you should take ownership of making sure it gets done.
This is not a position for someone who needs to be given a checklist every morning. We are looking for someone who can exercise good judgment, prioritize competing demands, identify problems before they become problems, and keep matters moving forward.
In return, you will have the opportunity to work with experienced family law attorneys in a professional, collaborative environment where strong performance, initiative, and experience are recognized and valued.
Take ownership of the day-to-day management of assigned family law matters from initial preparation through resolution.
Independently manage case files, deadlines, calendars, pleadings, discovery, correspondence, and other case-related tasks.
Maintain a detailed working knowledge of each assigned matter and proactively identify upcoming deadlines, outstanding issues, and necessary next steps.
Draft and prepare pleadings, motions, discovery, affidavits, subpoenas, notices, correspondence, briefs, and other legal documents.
Manage discovery, including gathering and organizing client documentation, tracking outstanding items, coordinating production, and preparing materials for attorney review.
Prepare attorneys for hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials by organizing pleadings, exhibits, evidence, witnesses, and supporting materials.
Conduct client interviews and gather information and documentation necessary to effectively prepare and advance cases.
Communicate directly and professionally with clients regarding case-related information, documentation, scheduling, and procedural matters.
Coordinate hearings, depositions, mediations, client meetings, service of process, and other case-related activities.
File pleadings and other documents with the courts and ensure compliance with applicable filing requirements and procedures.
Regularly review assigned matters to ensure cases are progressing appropriately and deadlines are not missed.
Keep attorneys proactively informed regarding case status, deadlines, outstanding issues, and significant developments.
Assist with legal research and preparation of briefs and other materials.
Maintain accurate, complete, and highly organized electronic case files.
Identify opportunities to improve case-management processes, workflows, and team efficiency.
Work collaboratively with attorneys and other members of the legal team.
Provide guidance and support to less-experienced paralegals when appropriate.
Required
7+ years of paralegal experience, with significant family law experience.
Strong North Carolina family law experience preferred.
North Carolina Certified Paralegal designation.
ABA-approved paralegal certificate, associate degree in paralegal studies, bachelor's degree, or comparable education and experience.
Demonstrated ability to independently manage a substantial caseload and competing deadlines.
Strong working knowledge of family law litigation, court procedures, discovery, and case preparation.
Significant experience drafting family law pleadings, discovery, motions, affidavits, correspondence, and other legal documents.
Experience preparing cases for hearings, mediation, depositions, and trial.
Ability to anticipate attorney and case needs rather than waiting for assignments.
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Confidence communicating directly with clients, attorneys, court personnel, opposing counsel, and other professionals.
Strong judgment, professionalism, discretion, and ability to handle highly sensitive client matters.
Ability to prioritize effectively and remain organized in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
Proficiency with legal case-management software, Microsoft Office, and related technology.
Preferred
10+ years of family law paralegal experience.
Extensive North Carolina family law litigation experience.
Experience independently managing complex and contested family law matters.
Experience mentoring or providing guidance to junior paralegals or legal support professionals.
Compensation
$75,000 - $85,000 yearly
We believe exceptional attorneys deserve exceptional support.
We are a firm built around the idea that excellent legal representation requires an excellent team. Our attorneys work alongside experienced legal professionals, established systems, and a collaborative team that allows them to focus on practicing law and serving their clients.
We value professionalism, accountability, initiative, teamwork, and excellence.
We also understand the difference an exceptional senior paralegal can make. The right person doesn't simply complete assignments. They know their cases, stay ahead of deadlines, anticipate problems, communicate effectively, and help the attorney operate at a higher level.
We are looking for someone who wants to be trusted with meaningful responsibility and recognized for the value they bring to the firm.
If you are a senior family law paralegal who takes ownership, anticipates what needs to be done, and takes genuine pride in doing excellent work, we want to hear from you.
