Marshall & Taylor, PLLC is seeking an exceptional Senior Family Law Attorney to join our leadership team and play a significant role in the continued growth and development of our firm.

This is an opportunity for an accomplished family law attorney who is ready for more than simply managing their own caseload. We are looking for a lawyer-leader who wants to use their experience to influence the quality of legal work, mentor attorneys, strengthen our team, and help shape the future of a growing family law practice.

You will continue to handle sophisticated family law matters and provide exceptional representation to clients, while also taking on meaningful leadership responsibilities. You will work closely with firm leadership to help establish and maintain high standards for legal strategy, client service, attorney development, case management, and professional excellence.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned family law attorney with excellent judgment, strong courtroom and negotiation skills, and the ability to earn the respect and confidence of other attorneys. You should be someone who naturally takes ownership, sees opportunities to improve the way things are done, and enjoys helping other attorneys become better lawyers.

Marshall & Taylor has built a strong foundation of experienced attorneys, senior paralegals, professional support staff, and established systems. We want to add a leader who can help us take the firm to the next level.

This is a long-term leadership opportunity for an attorney who wants to make a meaningful impact—not only through the cases they handle, but through the people they lead and the firm they help build.

Legal Practice & Client Representation

  • Lead and manage sophisticated and complex family law matters from inception through resolution.

  • Handle significant litigation, including hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials.

  • Develop and execute thoughtful legal strategies based on the facts, law, and objectives of each client.

  • Provide exceptional legal advice, advocacy, negotiation, and client service.

  • Maintain the highest standards of preparation, professionalism, judgment, and ethical conduct.

Leadership & Attorney Development

  • Serve as a senior legal leader and trusted resource to the firm's attorneys.

  • Mentor, coach, and develop attorneys at various stages of their careers.

  • Help establish and maintain the firm's standards for excellent legal work, case strategy, preparation, and client service.

  • Review and provide constructive feedback on legal work and case strategy when appropriate.

  • Assist attorneys in navigating difficult cases, litigation strategy, client-management issues, and professional challenges.

  • Help identify and develop future leaders within the firm.

Firm Leadership & Growth

  • Work closely with the firm's ownership and leadership team on the continued growth and development of the practice.

  • Help evaluate and improve legal processes, systems, workflows, and standards.

  • Identify opportunities to improve the client experience and the quality and efficiency of the firm's legal services.

  • Participate in strategic discussions concerning the firm's attorneys, practice, culture, and future direction.

  • Help foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, professionalism, and excellence.

  • Serve as a visible representative of the firm's values and standards.

  • Contribute to recruiting, evaluating, onboarding, and retaining talented attorneys and legal professionals.

  • Help build a firm where talented attorneys can develop professionally and do their best work.

This role is intended for an attorney who wants to lead—not simply manage a caseload.

  • Substantial experience practicing family law in North Carolina, with a demonstrated ability to independently handle sophisticated and complex matters.

  • Significant courtroom, litigation, negotiation, and client-management experience.

  • Excellent knowledge of North Carolina family law and strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.

  • Exceptional judgment and the ability to make sound decisions in complex and high-pressure situations.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to earn the trust and respect of clients, attorneys, and professional staff.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability, whether through mentoring attorneys, managing a practice group, supervising legal professionals, serving in a leadership role, or taking responsibility for improving a firm's operations or legal practice.

  • A genuine interest in developing other attorneys and helping them become better lawyers.

  • Ability to provide candid, constructive feedback while maintaining strong professional relationships.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance significant legal responsibilities with broader leadership responsibilities.

  • Demonstrated initiative and a willingness to identify problems, develop solutions, and take ownership of implementing them.

  • Ability to think beyond individual cases and consider what is best for the firm, its clients, and its people.

  • High level of professionalism, integrity, accountability, discretion, and emotional intelligence.

  • North Carolina Bar admission in good standing.

  • Board Certification in Family Law is preferred, or comparable depth of family law experience.
