The Hazzard Law Firm, LLC is seeking an experienced, highly motivated litigation attorney to join our growing practice. This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for an attorney who is capable of independently managing cases, appearing in court, communicating with clients, supervising case progression, and taking genuine ownership of his or her work.

Our practice includes family law, criminal defense, personal injury, probate, juvenile matters, and other civil litigation. The ideal candidate will have meaningful litigation experience in one or more of these areas and the ability and willingness to develop proficiency across the Firm’s practice areas.

This position is ideal for an attorney who wants more than a job. We are seeking someone interested in becoming an integral, long-term member of the Firm—someone who takes pride in excellent legal work, values client service, works well with a team, and can be trusted to move matters forward without constant supervision.

Who Will Succeed Here

The right attorney does not need to be reminded repeatedly to return a client’s call, prepare for court, review discovery, meet a deadline, or determine what needs to happen next on a file.

We are looking for an attorney who sees a case as his or her responsibility, identifies what needs to be done, communicates when assistance is needed, and follows the matter through.

At the same time, this is a collaborative Firm. The successful candidate will have access to the experience, resources, and support of the Managing Attorney and the Firm’s legal team. Independence does not mean working alone; it means being capable of taking ownership.

The attorney will be expected to independently manage an active caseload from assignment through resolution, including:

• Appearing in court for hearings, trials, status conferences, and other proceedings;

• Managing family law, criminal defense, personal injury, and other assigned matters;

• Developing case strategy and maintaining responsibility for deadlines and case progression;

• Drafting and reviewing pleadings, motions, discovery, briefs, correspondence, settlement documents, and proposed orders;

• Conducting and defending depositions;

• Preparing clients and witnesses for hearings, depositions, mediation, and trial;

• Negotiating with opposing counsel and insurance representatives;

• Maintaining consistent and professional communication with clients;

• Reviewing files regularly and ensuring that assigned cases continue moving toward resolution;

• Working closely with the Managing Attorney, other attorneys, paralegals, and support staff;

• Supervising delegated work and providing appropriate direction to support staff; and

• Maintaining the Firm’s standards for professionalism, responsiveness, preparation, confidentiality, and client service.

Candidates must:

• Be licensed and in good standing with the Alabama State Bar;

• Have at least three (3) years of meaningful legal experience, with litigation experience strongly preferred;

• Have actual courtroom experience;

• Possess strong legal research, writing, analytical, and advocacy skills;

• Be comfortable independently managing multiple active matters and deadlines;

• Demonstrate sound professional judgment and discretion;

• Be organized, dependable, accountable, and responsive;

• Be comfortable working in a fast-paced litigation practice; and

• Demonstrate a genuine interest in long-term professional growth with the Firm.

Five (5) or more years of litigation experience is preferred. Prior family law, criminal defense, and/or personal injury experience is strongly preferred.
