The Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey is hiring a Restaurant Sous Chef. The restaurant sous chef is the second-in-command in the kitchen, reporting directly to the executive or head chef and managing day-to-day culinary operations.

The sous chef (meaning "under chef" in French) ensures the executive chef's vision is executed consistently across every plate. They balance hands-on cooking on the line with leadership, staff supervision, and back-of-house administration.

• Kitchen Supervision: Oversee all prep and line stations during service, manage order timing, and ensure dishes meet quality, flavor, and presentation standards before leaving the kitchen.

• Staff Management: Direct, train, and mentor line cooks and prep staff, assist with shift scheduling, and step in to cover any station when a team member is absent.

• Food Safety & Sanitation: Enforce health department regulations, HACCP guidelines, and kitchen hygiene standards.

• Inventory & Ordering: Monitor stock levels, track food costs, manage waste, and receive or place orders with food vendors.

• Menu Execution & Development: Assist the executive chef in testing, costing, and developing new recipes or daily specials.

• Service Coordination: Bridge communication between the back of the house (line and prep) and the front of the house (servers and expeditors).

• Culinary Mastery: Advanced cooking skills across multiple techniques (sautéing, grilling, saucing, butchery, and plating).

• Leadership & Communication: Ability to motivate a high-stress team, resolve conflicts on the line, and give constructive feedback.

• Stamina & Problem-Solving: Capacity to work long, fast-paced shifts, stand for extended hours, and stay calm during a service rush.

• Experience & Education: Typically requires 2 to 5+ years of progressive line cook or kitchen management experience, often paired with a formal culinary arts degree or vocational training.

• Certifications: Current food handler and food safety manager certifications (such as ServSafe).
