The Maine Medical Association Center for Quality Improvement (MMA-CQI) is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and collaborative Project Manager – Maternal & Child Health to lead complex healthcare improvement initiatives from planning through implementation, evaluation, and closeout.

The Project Manager will be responsible for translating project goals into actionable plans and ensuring that projects remain organized, on schedule, within scope and budget, and aligned with funder and organizational expectations. This position will manage project workplans, timelines, deliverables, budgets, data, communications, risks, and stakeholder relationships while maintaining strong accountability and forward momentum.

The Project Manager will work closely with MMA-CQI staff, healthcare organizations, community partners, funders, subject matter experts, consultants, and other stakeholders to successfully implement projects that support improvements in maternal, perinatal, child health, and related systems of care.

The ideal candidate is a strong project manager who can bring structure and accountability to complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives, anticipate challenges, communicate proactively, and keep projects moving forward. Experience in maternal and child health is highly valued; however, strong project management skills, judgment, organization, and follow-through are essential to success in this role.

Project Planning, Implementation & Management: Lead the full project lifecycle—from initiation to closeout—by developing workplans, managing budgets and resources, and proactively mitigating risks to ensure timely delivery of high-quality results. The project manager is expected to

• Establish team member roles, responsibilities, accountability expectations, and communication structures.

• Manage multiple activities and competing priorities within the project while maintaining high-quality work and meeting established deadlines.

• Identify opportunities to improve project processes, efficiency, communication, and outcomes.

Team & Stakeholder Leadership: Convene and lead diverse, cross-functional teams and stakeholders; facilitate productive meetings and maintain strong professional relationships to drive project accountability and progress. Expectations of the project manager’s role include

• Building and maintaining strong working relationships with healthcare organizations, community partners, funders, steering committees, workgroups, implementation teams, speakers, content experts, consultants, and other stakeholders.

• Navigating competing priorities and perspectives using solution-oriented approaches that maintain productive relationships and project progress.

• Preparing agendas, meeting materials, minutes, decisions, and action items and ensuring appropriate follow-up.

Data, Evaluation & Reporting: Design and implement data management plans, monitor project performance through dashboards and reports, and use findings to provide actionable updates to stakeholders and funders. The project manager will

• Coordinate the collection, management, analysis, and reporting of project data and performance measures.

• Develop and monitor dashboards, reports, feedback tools, and other mechanisms for tracking project progress and outcomes,

• Use data to identify trends, opportunities, barriers, and areas for improvement.

Budget, Grant & Contract Management: Develop and monitor project budgets and expenses while managing grant requirements, subcontractor contracts, and funder relationships to ensure full compliance. The project manager is expected to

• Monitor project-related expenses and identify potential budget concerns proactively.

• Monitor subcontractor and consultant deliverables and ensure alignment with project expectations and agreements.

Communications & Dissemination: Create and execute communication plans and materials—including presentations, webinars, and web content—to share project goals, progress, and best practices with internal and external audiences. The project manager will

• Develop and implement project communication plans that clearly articulate project purpose, goals, progress, outcomes, and next steps.

• Develop, manage, and disseminate project materials, presentations, improvement resources, tools, reports, and other communications.

Integration & Continuous Improvement: Align projects with broader organizational priorities and statewide initiatives while identifying opportunities to share best practices and improve internal project management processes. The project manager is expected to

• Collaborate with current partners, relevant organizations, and statewide groups to coordinate and align quality improvement initiatives.

• Identify opportunities to share best practices, lessons learned, and successful approaches across projects and partners that support initiatives that strengthen MMA-CQI's role as a trusted and neutral convener across healthcare and community systems.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) and 3+ years of experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects—preferably in healthcare or nonprofits—through all phases of the project lifecycle.

• Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills with a proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, resolve issues professionally, and communicate effectively with diverse groups.

• Experience in healthcare or public health environments, specifically in designing or evaluating quality improvement initiatives and using data to support decision-making.

• Practical experience monitoring project budgets, managing grant-funded requirements, and overseeing subcontractor deliverables.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience using digital tools for task management, data tracking, and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in maternal, perinatal, child health, early childhood, public health, or related healthcare systems.

• Knowledge of Maine's maternal, perinatal, and child health systems and services.

• Experience in a clinical or healthcare setting, including care delivery, quality improvement, research, operations, or administration.

• Experience working with healthcare providers, hospitals, health systems, community-based organizations, or statewide initiatives.

• Experience sharing best practices through webinars, learning communities, websites, conferences, or other educational forums.

• Familiarity with educational requirements for clinicians, including Continuing Medical Education (CME).

• Master's degree in healthcare, public health, business, project management, or a related field.
