An MDBG Project Lead is the primary onsite representative of our Company and the overall Coordinator and Builder of our construction projects. He/She holds primary responsibility for:

  • The success of projects they manage, success being defined as completed on time and on budget exactly as promised, at or above the projected gross margin the job was originally estimated with, while maintaining superior customer satisfaction
  • Ensuring that the “Scope of Work” is completed to the high standard our Company strives to attain
  • Executing all communications necessary to deliver on the above in a timely and professional manner.

This is a hands-on position where you would be on site 80 to 90% of the time, wearing a tool belt, performing carpentry work and other trades when necessary, communicating with Home Owners and our Trade Partners, and generally managing the project from start to finish. Responsibilities

Major Responsibilities

Project Pre-Planning - Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance

  • Project Debug
  • Preparation and/or review of the Project Schedule based on the Estimate and Contract
  • Review and/or Preparation of Long lead ordered materials, Work orders for involved Trade Partners, and General materials lists and ordering
  • Preconstruction Conference

Communication - Communication is the real work of Leadership

  • Understands and embraces the importance of good communication
  • Maintains open, daily communications with clients, trade partners, and the Design/Sales Department as needed, with daily updates/logs via Job Tread.

General Job Oversight and Construction - You Bring Dreams to Life

  • Coordinates the overall dance from the start of the project to the finishing touches
  • Performs and/or oversees all carpentry and other in-house work, and delegates as necessary to other field staff to ensure that the project is moving forward according to schedule and that our Quality Standards are met using Best Practices.

Project Financial Management - We are meticulous about the numbers

  • Actively works to ensure accurate job costing by Coding Receipts and invoices every week
  • Ensuring that employees on the job accurately keep their time according to the job and cost codes.
  • Proactively monitors and controls project costs.
  • Manages the Change Order process from estimate to signing for any Change Orders less than $2,500. Consults with the Production Manager for Change Orders exceeding $2,500.
  • Updates the Schedule and estimated hours to complete at each weekly two-week lookahead.

Qualifications

  • Thorough understanding of construction principles, methods, and specifications, both within the Company and the industry
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in a general contracting or custom building/remodeling company
  • BS or BA degree in construction management, a plus, or equivalent experience
  • Strong knowledge of and experience in all facets of carpentry, from rough to finish
  • Experience in other trades is a plus
  • Ability to understand design intent and able, if necessary, to work through low levels of detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, details, and specifications. Can visualize in three dimensions from two-dimensional data
  • Ability to solve problems and deal effectively with variables in situations where limited standardization may exist.
  • Computer literacy –competency in MS Word, Excel, Project, and industry-specific software for managing change orders, job cost, and related project commitments
  • Strong general math skills (algebra and geometry) to facilitate calculation of necessary job equations: area, volume, angles, pitch, diameter, circumference, and square footage, etc.
  • Proactive, flexible, team player who is comfortable working in a small company environment, taking on a leadership role
  • Forward-looking, able to anticipate problems and challenges well in advance, and having a solution in place before a crisis
  • Highly motivated, self-starter
  • Organized and efficient, with above-average time management skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work “in it” and “on it” simultaneously
  • Open to receive coaching and feedback
  • Physical abilities essential to the job include the ability to walk, talk, and hear. There are regular demands that physically require the employee to be able to lift and carry at least 80 pounds. The employee must be able to see and focus clearly both at a distance and close up.
  • Employee will be subject to and must be able to work in the extremes of the outdoor environment in both summer and winter
  • Employee must be able to operate a motor vehicle to and from the job site

Compensation

$30 - $40/hour
