The Probate Paralegal supports our attorneys and clients through probate, estate planning, trust administration, and asset transfers. You are the person who brings order, care, and follow-through to sensitive legal matters. Families are making decisions about legacy, loss, assets, and responsibility. Attorneys are relying on accurate files, clean drafts, and deadlines that do not move.

Working under attorney supervision, you will help attorneys deliver accurate probate and planning services. You will organize client information, prepare documents for attorney review, track deadlines, and coordinate with courts, banks, and other third parties, with the trust and discretion these family and financial matters require. • Support the probate process: prepare petitions for letters testamentary or of administration, oaths, and related filings for attorney review; track creditor-notice and other court deadlines; prepare estate inventories, accountings, and closing documents; and assist with small-estate affidavits.

• Support trust and estate administration.

• Gather, organize, and analyze client information for probate, estate planning, and trust administration matters.

• Prepare and file documents with courts, government agencies, and other required recipients, after attorney review.

• Assist with drafting wills, trusts, advance directives, powers of attorney, probate pleadings, and related correspondence for attorney review.

• Coordinate client meetings, attorney preparation, hearing preparation, and case-status communications.

• Calendar and track statutory and court deadlines across the counties and courts we practice in. Flag rule changes, court procedure updates, and county-specific filing practices to the attorneys, and maintain an internal reference guide of local court requirements.

• Provide calm, discreet, responsive service to clients handling sensitive family, financial, and legacy matters.

Required

• Associate degree or higher in paralegal studies or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• Two or more years of direct probate, estate planning, or trust administration experience, or three or more years in closely related legal support.

• Strong drafting, proofreading, legal research, file management, and deadline-management skills.

• Professional written and verbal communication with clients, attorneys, courts, and third parties.

• High discretion with confidential personal, financial, and family information.

• Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with attorneys and support staff.

• Experience with, or the ability to quickly learn, the procedures of multiple county courts.

• Comfort learning legal technology, document assembly, and case-management tools.

Preferred

• Paralegal certification, such as National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) CP or National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) PACE.

• Experience with Clio and Microsoft 365.

Tennessee notary commission, or willingness to obtain one.
