Payless Drugs is seeking a dependable, motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our independent community pharmacy team. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their work, treats patients professionally, and understands that accuracy, urgency, and teamwork are essential in a pharmacy environment.

This position is appropriate for an experienced pharmacy technician or a strong candidate who is willing to learn, accept coaching, and work toward certification. Experience with PioneerRx is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Enter, process, fill, and prepare prescriptions accurately and efficiently under pharmacist supervision.
  • Assist patients in person and by telephone while providing professional, courteous service.
  • Process insurance claims, resolve routine rejections, and gather information needed for pharmacist intervention.
  • Maintain prescription workflow, including will-call, partial fills, out-of-stock prescriptions, and return-to-stock requirements.
  • Support inventory management through receiving orders, stocking medications, monitoring expiration dates, and completing assigned cycle counts.
  • Assist with medication synchronization, compliance packaging, delivery preparation, immunization workflow, and other pharmacy services.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, Alabama Board of Pharmacy requirements, company policies, and applicable federal regulations.

Qualifications

  • Current Alabama Pharmacy Technician registration or the ability to obtain registration before beginning technician duties.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Pharmacy technician experience is preferred but not required for an exceptional candidate.
  • National certification through PTCB or NHA is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Dependable attendance, punctuality, professionalism, and willingness to accept direction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, prioritize responsibilities, and work cooperatively with pharmacists and other team members.

Preferred Experience

  • PioneerRx pharmacy software
  • Third-party insurance billing and rejection resolution
  • Medication synchronization or compliance packaging
  • Inventory management
  • Community or independent pharmacy operations
  • Immunization support

Physical Requirements

The position requires prolonged standing, frequent movement throughout the pharmacy, repetitive use of hands, and the ability to lift and carry pharmacy inventory and supplies weighing up to approximately 30 pounds.

  • Support medication synchronization, compliance packaging, deliveries, immunizations, and other pharmacy services.
  • Follow HIPAA requirements, Alabama Board of Pharmacy regulations, company policies, and all applicable safety procedures.

  • Pharmacy experience and familiarity with PioneerRx are preferred but not required.


Compensation

$15 - $19/hour
