PROVIDENCE IN-HOME CARE SERVICE is seeking compassionate, dependable, and dedicated Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) to provide high-quality in-home support services to seniors, individuals with disabilities, and clients recovering from illness or injury. The Personal Care Assistant plays a vital role in helping clients maintain their independence, dignity, safety, and overall well-being while remaining in the comfort of their own homes.

Work Environment

This position is performed primarily in clients' homes throughout the agency's service area. Personal Care Assistants work independently while maintaining regular communication with supervisors and care management staff. The role requires travel between client locations and close interaction with clients, families, and healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality care and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Personal Care Assistance

  • Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and personal hygiene.
  • Provide assistance with mobility, transfers, positioning, and ambulation while following proper safety techniques.
  • Assist with feeding and hydration when appropriate.
  • Promote client comfort, dignity, and independence during all care activities.

Household Support

  • Prepare nutritious meals according to client preferences and dietary restrictions.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties, including laundry, dishwashing, vacuuming, dusting, changing bed linens, and maintaining a clean living environment.
  • Assist with grocery shopping, errands, and prescription pickups as authorized.

Companionship and Emotional Support

  • Provide companionship and meaningful social interaction.
  • Encourage participation in hobbies, recreational activities, and community engagement when appropriate.
  • Observe changes in clients' physical, emotional, or mental condition and promptly report concerns to the appropriate supervisor.

Client Safety and Care

  • Assist with medication reminders in accordance with agency policies (no medication administration unless authorized).
  • Follow individualized care plans and client service agreements.
  • Maintain a safe environment by identifying and reporting potential hazards.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow agency protocols.

Documentation and Communication

  • Accurately document services provided, observations, and client progress.
  • Report incidents, accidents, or significant changes in client condition promptly.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, clients, family members, and healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and agency policies.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Attend required orientation, training sessions, and staff meetings.
  • Maintain professional appearance and conduct at all times.
  • Comply with agency policies, procedures, ethical standards, and state regulations.
  • Demonstrate respect, compassion, and cultural sensitivity while providing care.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of caregiving, home care, personal care, or related experience preferred.
  • Ability to provide compassionate, respectful, and dependable care.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance (if transporting clients).
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and any other pre-employment screenings required by law.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Personal Care Assistant (PCA), Home Health Aide (HHA), or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
  • Experience working with seniors, individuals with disabilities, dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or chronic medical conditions.

  • Ability to safely lift, transfer, push, or pull up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to travel to client homes throughout the agency's service area.
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks associated with personal care services.
