Part-Time College Planning & Admissions Counselor
College Planning Source • Remote
Posted 7 days ago
We're hiring part-time senior counselors to join our close-knit, high-performing team. This is not a "build-your-own-practice" role — instead, you'll join a trusted system with an established meeting cadence, digital planning platforms, and strong communication tools.
What We're Looking For:
Someone genuinely excited to work with and motivate both students and parents, not just competent at managing the relationship
Tech-open and coachable — comfortable learning our tools and process rather than someone who thinks their own way is best
Experienced counselors with a strong track record (3+ years)
Familiarity with the Common Application, University of California, and California State University systems
Primarily available to work with students in the Pacific time zone
Working hours are Monday through Friday, until 7:30 p.m. PST
This Might Not Be a Fit If:
You're looking for a caseload to manage rather than students and parents you're excited to motivate
You prefer to do things your own way and resist structured systems, tools, or feedback
You dislike using digital tools or working virtually
You want full autonomy to coach however you wish, including owning essay coaching solo rather than partnering with our specialists
If you're independent but not stubborn, strategic but not rigid, we'd love to hear from you.
Onboarding: New counselors begin with a paid 10-day onboarding and evaluation period, during which you'll be trained on our platforms and process and work directly with our team. This helps both sides confirm the fit before moving into an ongoing engagement.
College Planning Source (CPSI) is a leading private college planning company supporting high school students and their families through career discovery, major exploration, and college admissions. We offer a structured, proven process and seek seasoned professionals who thrive in a collaborative, tech-enabled environment.
What makes CPSI different is the team model. Most admissions practices are built around a single consultant; we pair experienced counselors with specialists who bring focused expertise. Counselors hold the family relationship; specialists bring craft to essay coaching. Students get better outcomes when a team supports them.
Our mission is to help every student present their truest, strongest application to colleges that fit them, without losing the student's voice. Our hiring protocols and team structure exist to preserve that voice.
We hire slowly, support our people fully, and treat each counselor-specialist pairing as a long-term collaboration, not gig work.
How to Apply: We receive thousands of applications. Please do not call or email us directly. If your resume and experience meet our qualifications, we will be in touch. We will not review resumes submitted without an accompanying cover letter.
Manage a caseload of high school students.
Follow a structured meeting cadence and planning process, supported by our platforms.
Collaborate with our internal team on student timelines, applications, and outcomes.
Guide students through academic planning, extracurricular development, college list creation, and essay strategy.
Help students improve executive functioning (organization, time management, follow-through).
Communicate consistently and clearly with families.
Lead or support admissions workshops and group info sessions.
Uphold CPSI's high standard of care, professionalism, and responsiveness.
3+ years of experience as a high school counselor, independent educational consultant, or college admissions counselor.
Deep understanding of the U.S. college admissions process, including selective admissions.
Strong comfort level with technology and virtual tools (Zoom, Google Workspace, CRMs, digital calendars, etc.), and genuine openness to learning new ones.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
High empathy, responsiveness, and professionalism with both students and parents.
Receptive to feedback and excited to learn our process and tools.
A graduate degree is preferred but not required.
Compensation
$50 - $80 hourly
