Paralegal / Legal Assistant (Estate Planning or Probate Focus)
The Law Offices of Brenton C. McWilliams is growing, and we’re looking for the right person to join our legal team! We’re a client-focused estate planning and probate law firm with multiple offices across Baldwin County, Alabama.
We take pride in delivering high-quality legal services in a warm, organized, and efficient environment. We’re excited to add a new Paralegal / Legal Assistant to help us carry out that mission.
Do you have experience working in estate planning, probate, or both? Do you enjoy drafting legal documents and engaging with clients to help them through important life transitions? Are you detail-oriented, self-motivated, and skilled at keeping things moving behind the scenes?
Whether you call yourself a paralegal or a legal assistant, if you have experience supporting attorneys in preparing legal documents, managing client files, and keeping matters on track, we want to hear from you.
Depending on your background, this position may focus on estate
planning or probate work.
You’ll work closely with our attorneys, legal team, and support staff to help manage client files, prepare legal documents, and guide clients through a thoughtful, organized process.
You’ll also benefit from a positive team culture, predictable office hours (Monday–Thursday 8–5, Friday 8–4), and the chance to work in a firm that values professional excellence. We anticipate this position will be located in our Spanish Fort office.
Depending on your experience and assigned focus (Estate Planning or Probate), your responsibilities may include:
- Draft wills, trusts, powers of attorney, probate filings, inventories, accountings, and other legal documents under the supervision of an attorney.
- Communicate with clients to gather missing information, follow up on forms, and assist with document execution and case updates.
- Maintain organized and accurate digital client files within the firm’s case management system.
- Coordinate with attorneys and team members on document preparation, deadlines, and final appointment scheduling.
- Proofread and review documents for accuracy, completeness, and clarity.
- Track and record billable/non-billable time daily.
- Assist with filing probate documents and communicating with court staff when necessary.
- Work with beneficiaries, executors, and financial institutions to help administer estates or trusts.
- Meet firm metrics for document turnaround time, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Contribute to ongoing improvements in our systems, templates, and internal processes.
- Prior experience in estate planning or probate law is required. Experience in both is a plus, but not required.
- Strong written communication and document drafting skills.
- High attention to detail, organization, and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and stay on top of case timelines.
- Tech-savvy and comfortable using Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Microsoft Word, Excel, and cloud-based case management systems.
- Friendly, professional communication style, especially when engaging with clients.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Positive attitude and willingness to continually learn and grow in your role.
Compensation
$45,000 - $65,000 yearly
At The Law Offices of Brenton C. McWilliams, we help provide direction, organization, and peace of mind for families during important and often stressful times.
We care deeply about the client experience, but we also believe excellent service requires discipline, competence, and follow-through.
We value people who solve problems, take ownership of their responsibilities, and remain open to learning. When something goes wrong, we want our first question to be, "How do we fix it?" Then we want to understand what we can learn or change so the problem is less likely to happen again.
We also believe employees should be trusted to think. We want people who can work independently within the boundaries of their role, use good judgment, and bring forward solutions rather than depending on someone else for every decision.
Our goal is to build a professional workplace where people care about the quality of their work, support the people around them, and continue becoming more capable over time.
