THE HAZZARD LAW FIRM, LLC
Birmingham Metropolitan Area, Alabama

The Hazzard Law Firm, LLC is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal/Legal Assistant to join our team and provide substantive support to the Firm’s attorneys in family law, personal injury, criminal defense, and other litigation matters.

This position is intended for an experienced legal professional who understands how to help move a case forward—not simply complete individual assignments.

The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working with multiple attorneys and active litigation files. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of assigned responsibilities, follows through without repeated reminders, protects deadlines, communicates effectively, and takes pride in producing excellent work.

Who Will Succeed Here

We value team members who see something that needs attention and take appropriate action rather than waiting to be reminded.

The successful candidate will be someone who checks the file, knows what is outstanding, follows up, documents the follow-up, communicates with the responsible attorney, and continues tracking the issue until it is resolved.

We are seeking someone who wants to become a trusted, long-term member of the Firm and who understands that excellent client service requires both compassion and accountability.

What We Offer

The Hazzard Law Firm provides an opportunity to work on meaningful cases alongside experienced attorneys in a professional and team-oriented environment.

Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience and demonstrated ability.

To Apply

Please submit a résumé and brief cover letter describing your prior litigation experience, including the practice areas in which you have worked and the types of responsibilities you independently handled.

All inquiries and applications will be treated confidentially.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting attorneys with family law, personal injury, criminal defense, and other litigation matters;

  • Drafting routine pleadings, motions, discovery, correspondence, notices, subpoenas, and other legal documents for attorney review;

  • Preparing and organizing discovery requests and responses;

  • Obtaining and organizing medical records, medical bills, accident documentation, insurance information, and other personal-injury materials;

  • Assisting with preparation of personal-injury demands and settlement documentation;

  • Maintaining and organizing case files and ensuring documents are properly saved in the Firm’s case-management system;

  • Monitoring court deadlines, discovery deadlines, hearings, depositions, mediations, and other important dates;

  • Preparing attorneys for hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials;

  • Communicating professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, medical providers, insurance companies, experts, and other third parties;

  • Following up on outstanding records, discovery, orders, reports, and other case-related matters;

  • Reviewing assigned files and identifying outstanding tasks requiring attention;

  • Providing attorneys with timely status updates;

  • Assisting with trial notebooks, exhibits, witness materials, and hearing preparation; and

  • Performing other substantive litigation-support responsibilities as needed.

Candidates should have:

  • At least three (3) years of prior experience in a law office, with litigation experience strongly preferred;

  • Experience in family law, personal injury, and/or criminal defense strongly preferred;

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills;

  • Experience with legal case-management software;

  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines;

  • Strong attention to detail;

  • Professional judgment and discretion when handling confidential matters; and

  • A demonstrated history of reliability, accountability, and employment stability.

Experience with Clio or comparable legal case-management software is preferred.
