Job Description: Optician in Akron

Overview

An optician is responsible for helping customers select and fit eyeglasses and contact lenses, as well as providing advice on lens selection and care. They work closely with optometrists and ophthalmologists to ensure that customers receive the correct prescription and that their eyewear meets their needs.

Responsibilities

Assist customers in selecting and fitting eyeglasses and contact lenses
Provide advice on lens selection and care
Measure customers' eyes and facial features to ensure proper fit of eyewear
Order and verify the accuracy of eyewear prescriptions
Adjust and repair eyewear as needed
Maintain inventory of eyewear and accessories
Keep up-to-date with new eyewear products and trends
Provide exceptional customer service

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of an opticianry program or equivalent experience
State licensure or certification as an optician
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work well in a team environment
Attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 25 pounds

Responsibilities

Wear appropriate personal protective equipment to ensure safety and universal precautions are met
Coordinate and deliver collections and test samples of blood, tissue and body fluids
Prepare specimens for testing for a medical technologist to test for proper patient diagnosis
Clean, sterilize, and organize lab equipment to prepare for testing
Manage and maintain diagnostic equipment and laboratory instruments such as centrifuges and chemistry analyzers

Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of experience as a medical technician, or medical laboratory technician is vital
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills are a necessity
You should be familiar with laboratory best practices and equipment
MLT license from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
An associate’s degree from an accredited training program in clinical laboratory science is required
