Be a Part of the Team. Build a Career.

Higgins, Hopkins, McLain & Roswell, LLC (“HHMR”), a 2026 Denver Business Journal "Best Place to Work," is a boutique litigation firm that defends builders, developers, contractors, and design professionals throughout Colorado in complex construction and casualty matters. We are looking for a Litigation Paralegal with 2 or more years of experience who wants meaningful responsibility, sophisticated work, a congenial atmosphere, and a place to build a career.

Our paralegals are assigned to cases and are part of the team from start to finish, including trial. Our paralegals are valued members of the case team and have direct contact with attorneys, clients, experts, and claims professionals.

A Firm Where People Want to Work

HHMR was recognized by the Denver Business Journal as one of its 2026 Best Places to Work, an honor based on confidential feedback from our employees. That recognition is particularly meaningful to us. We have spent 25 years building our reputation as a top-notch litigation firm, but we believe the quality of a law firm is also measured by the experience of the people who work there. Our culture is built around six Core Values: Team Players, Excellent Skills, Pride & Passion, Strong Work Ethic, and Confidence.

These are not aspirational slogans. They describe how we expect our team to work with clients and with one another.

Work Hard. Have a Life.

HHMR’s annual billable-hour expectation for paralegals is 1,500 hours. In a busy litigation firm like ours, this is easily achievable. And paralegals who want to produce more are generously rewarded for the extra revenue they generate. In addition to base salary and eligibility for a discretionary year-end bonus, HHMR pays an upside production bonus of $50 for each billable hour above 1,500 that is billed to the client. This structure provides both a realistic billable expectation and meaningful upside for paralegals who choose to produce more.

Work With Experienced and Decorated Lawyers

Our attorneys are leaders in the Colorado construction litigation industry. You will be working with the best of the best. HHMR provides regular feedback and mentoring, monthly Lunch & Learns, collaboration among attorneys and paralegals, and a structured approach to managing litigation and developing skills.

We also believe much of an employee's development happens through everyday interaction with others. For that reason, HHMR prefers that our team work in the office, where mentoring, collaboration, and camaraderie occur. At the same time, we recognize that professionals sometimes need or prefer to work elsewhere, and our team has the flexibility to do so when appropriate. Our office is located at 3801 E. Florida Avenue in Denver, at Colorado Boulevard and Florida Avenue, with covered underground parking provided by the firm.

Compensation

Base salary: $65,000 annually, and up, depending on experience and qualifications. In addition to base compensation:

  • The annual billable-hour expectation is 1,500 hours;

  • Paralegals receive an upside production bonus of $50 for each billable hour above 1,500 that is billed to the client; and

  • Paralegals are also eligible for a discretionary year-end bonus based upon overall contributions to the firm.

Benefits

HHMR offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • Fully paid by the firm health insurance, including telehealth options, with the option for you to choose from other plans for an additional premium and/or add family members;

  • Fully paid by the firm dental insurance;

  • Fully paid by the firm short-term and long-term disability insurance;

  • Optional for purchase vision, life, accident, and critical illness coverage;

  • 401(k) plan with eligibility after completing six months of employment and with a 4% firm match;

  • Fully paid by the firm covered underground parking;

  • Between 10-12 paid holidays per year, plus accrued paid time off ("PTO") at 10 hours per month, from the day you start, with a maximum accrual of 120 hours per year;

  • Flexible home/office work when appropriate.

Benefits subject to change

Who We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate has 2 or more years of litigation experience and wants to continue developing as a paralegal. Construction litigation experience is helpful, but it is not required. We are more interested in strong litigation fundamentals, excellent analytical and writing skills, sound judgment, intellectual curiosity, and a desire to develop expertise in a sophisticated and technical area of law.

Responsibilities.

Our paralegals take on billable work, not administrative tasks. That work includes:

  • Document management;

  • Preparing C.R.C.P. 26(a)(1) disclosures;

  • Preparing C.R.C.P. 26(a)(2) disclosures;

  • Drafting tenders of defense and notices of claim;

  • Communicating with clients, insurance carriers, and experts;

  • Drafting subpoenas;

  • Assisting attorneys with deposition exhibits;

  • Trial preparation, including drafting exhibit lists and witness lists, and other trial support;

  • And so much more!

Successful HHMR paralegals:

  • Are organized;

  • Take ownership of their work and follow through on commitments;

  • Want meaningful responsibility and are willing to earn increasing autonomy;

  • Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, opposing counsel, experts, etc.;

  • Look ahead at upcoming litigation deadlines;

  • Enjoy working as part of a team rather than operating in a silo;

  • Welcome feedback and continually look for ways to improve;

  • Want to contribute to building a great firm, not simply work at one.
