We are looking for a motivated Litigation Attorney to join our firm and handle professional license defense and administrative law matters. The ideal candidate will be diligent, prepared, and confident in advocating for clients throughout every stage of a case.

Our next team member will be responsible for preparing thoroughly for settlement conferences and contested case hearings and will have the opportunity to advocate for clients before licensing boards and state agencies. Prior experience in professional license defense, administrative law, or litigation is preferred but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate.

The attorneys on our team work closely with clients, often during stressful and uncertain situations. Patience, professionalism, and strong communication skills are essential. You will help clients prepare for settlement conferences, contested case hearings, and interviews with investigators while ensuring they understand the process and feel prepared every step of the way.

This position also involves courtroom advocacy and litigation, so you should be comfortable speaking on your feet, thinking strategically, and advocating confidently for your clients. • Take ownership of your cases. After completing training and successfully demonstrating your abilities during a set probationary period, you will have the opportunity to serve as the lead attorney on your own cases.

• Research legal issues related to clients’ cases and develop a strong understanding of the laws, regulations, and issues affecting their professional licenses.

• Attend contested hearings before various licensing entities, including the Office of Administrative Hearings, state agencies, and professional licensing boards.

• Attend settlement conferences with the Office of Administrative Hearings, state agencies, and professional licensing boards.

• Meet with Board and Agency investigators and assist clients in preparing for investigative interviews.

• Draft and file legal documents, including pleadings, motions, responses, and other filings.

• Develop legal strategies and theories for clients’ cases and execute effective plans for hearings, settlement conferences, and other proceedings.

• Build strong client relationships. Communicate regularly with clients, keep them informed about their cases, and take the initiative to provide a level of service that makes clients feel supported and valued.

• J.D. degree and an active North Carolina law license are required.

• At least 3 years of litigation experience is required.

• Courtroom experience is required.

• Experience with professional licensing and administrative law matters is preferred, but not required.

• Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

• A proven ability to be deadline-driven, highly organized, and detail-oriented.

• Proficiency with basic computer software and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technology and programs.

• A self-starter who can work independently while following the firm’s policies and procedures.

• Experience working with cloud-based technology, including Google Drive and law firm management software, is required.

• Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.

• Ability and willingness to consistently use a calendar and task-management system to manage deadlines and responsibilities.

• Proficiency with virtual meeting platforms, including Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams.

• Must have a valid driver’s license.

• The position will include some work in Superior Court, including appeals of agency and professional licensing board decisions and other professional license-related matters.

• The first sixty days, while we are getting to know one another, will be in the office so we can determine the best hybrid schedule for your situation

• Client billing is on a flat fee basis, so you will not have to worry about meeting a set hourly billing goal
