THE OPPORTUNITY
We’re looking for a skilled legal content writer to join our Content Team on a contract-to-hire basis. We’ll bring on a small number of contract writers and evaluate fit, quality, and reliability over the initial period, with the intent of extending a full-time offer to the right person. We’re not looking for a vendor; we’re looking for a future teammate.
You’ll be joining our Content Team, a group of experienced editors, including licensed attorneys, as a dedicated writer working alongside them to grow the team and elevate the work we deliver for clients.
The right person writes with precision and authority on complex legal topics, understands how content performs in both traditional and AI-driven search, and knows how to use AI tools for planning, research, and review—while keeping the writing itself entirely human-crafted. Clients trust us to deliver authentic, original content, and that standard is non-negotiable.
You’ll work closely with the Content Editors and collaborate across our SEO and Client Services teams. The content you produce will appear on law firm websites nationwide—it must be written for the reader first—accurate, authoritative, and conversion-focused—with Google and AI search engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claude kept in mind as a secondary lens. When there’s a tradeoff, we optimize for the user, not the algorithm.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Each team member contributes to the culture and profitability of the company by adhering to core values, following company policies, and fulfilling the company’s mission through their work. Key responsibilities include:
Write for the reader first – Research, draft, and deliver original static pages, blog posts, FAQs, and other content types that are accurate, substantive, and genuinely useful to potential clients. Content should be written to inform and convert—search visibility follows from quality, not the other way around.
Keep search engines in mind, not in charge – Apply SEO best practices and emerging Generative Engine Optimization (GEO/AIO) principles as a secondary lens. Structure content with clear headings, authoritative citations, and entity-focused writing that helps both Google and AI platforms surface it—but never at the expense of readability or user experience.
Demonstrate E-E-A-T – Produce content that clearly signals Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness—including proper sourcing, authoritative citations, and adherence to ethical and bar standards.
Use AI as a force multiplier – Leverage AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) for content planning, topic research, competitive analysis, outline development, and post-draft review. All published content must be human-written—AI supports the process; it does not replace the writer.
Maintain editorial standards – Follow the Content Team’s house style guide and applicable authoritative style guides. Rigorously review all copy for grammar, accuracy, readability, and compliance with bar advertising rules.
Manage client feedback loops – Revise content drafts to incorporate client edits and address concerns promptly and professionally.
Own your workflow – Manage assigned tasks proactively, ensuring priority and urgent work receives expedited attention. Communicate status, blockers, and capacity to the Content Team Lead.
Stay current – Keep up with developments in legal issues relevant to our practice areas, SEO and content marketing trends, and the evolving AI search landscape.
Grow professionally – Participate in professional development including conferences, CLE seminars, webinars, online courses, and the annual company conference.
Required
Demonstrated content writing experience with a portfolio that shows range—journalism, web copywriting, technical writing, or similar
Deep familiarity with legal issues, especially personal injury, family law, criminal defense, workers’ compensation, Social Security disability, employment law, and/or bankruptcy
Strong understanding of SEO content principles—keyword integration, on-page optimization, internal linking, and content structure—applied in service of the reader, not at their expense
Comfort using AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) for research, planning, and editorial review—with a clear understanding that content production is human-written
Excellent written communication—clean prose, clear reasoning, and a knack for making complex legal topics accessible without oversimplifying
Self-directed work ethic with strong time management and the ability to hit deadlines consistently
A quiet, dedicated home office with reliable high-speed internet
Preferred
J.D. and active law license (strongly preferred but not required)
Experience writing content optimized for AI search visibility (GEO/AIO)—structured answers, citation-rich formats, entity-focused writing
Familiarity with E-E-A-T signals and how Google and AI platforms evaluate content authority
Background in legal marketing, law firm websites, or legal publishing
Comfort working asynchronously in a remote-first, small-agency environment
Compensation
$40,000 - $50,000 full-time
