Legal Administrative Assistant
Rockville, Maryland | Full-Time | In-Office
Are you the person everyone counts on to make sure the details are handled, the documents are organized, and nothing falls through the cracks?
Divorce With A Plan is looking for a highly organized, dependable Legal Administrative Assistant to join our Rockville office and provide essential administrative support to our attorneys and legal production team.
This is not a paralegal position—and it is not intended to be a stepping stone to becoming one.
We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys administrative work: organizing information, preparing documents, managing details, coordinating schedules, communicating professionally, and making sure attorneys have what they need to do their best work.
Your Most Important Role: Helping Attorneys Prepare for Trial
One of your most important responsibilities will be preparing voluminous trial binders and hearing materials for our attorneys.
You will take large amounts of information and turn them into organized, accurate, professionally prepared materials that attorneys can rely on in the courtroom. This includes organizing documents, copying, assembling, labeling, and binding materials according to the attorney's instructions.
If you take pride in creating order out of complexity and enjoy the satisfaction of seeing a large project come together perfectly, you may be exactly who we're looking for.
What This Job Is—and Isn't
This is:
A hands-on administrative role supporting a busy family law practice.
A position where organization and attention to detail are critical.
A role where your work directly helps attorneys prepare for hearings and trials.
A professional position with meaningful responsibility and clear performance expectations.
This is not:
A paralegal position.
A legal research or legal writing position.
A role where you will be expected to provide legal analysis or advice.
A guaranteed pathway to becoming a paralegal.
If what motivates you is being the person who keeps everything organized, prepared, accurate, and on track, we want to hear from you.
The Details
Location: Rockville, Maryland
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week
Work Environment: In-office
Position: Full-time, non-exempt

What You'll Do
Your responsibilities will include:
Prepare and assemble trial binders and hearing materials.
Organize, copy, label, and bind large volumes of legal documents accurately.
Assist attorneys and paralegals with administrative preparation for hearings and trials.
Maintain organized electronic and physical client files.
Manage and update task lists, deadlines, reminders, and other administrative details.
Coordinate calls and meetings between attorneys, paralegals, and clients.
Communicate professionally with clients by phone, email, and correspondence.
Prepare and send correspondence as directed by attorneys.
Serve as an administrative point of contact with courts and administrative agencies regarding scheduling and other non-legal matters.
Open incoming mail and upload documents into Clio.
Accurately document communications and activities in client files.
Enter time and billing information as required.
Prepare monthly Client Review Letters for attorney review.
Perform other administrative duties that help keep the legal team organized and moving forward.
This Position Is a Great Fit If You Have Experience As:
Legal Secretary
Legal Administrative Assistant
Legal Assistant
File Clerk
Legal Receptionist
Administrative or Project Assistant
Executive Assistant with strong document-management and organizational skills
Prior law-firm experience is preferred, but we will consider candidates whose administrative experience demonstrates the organization, accuracy, professionalism, and follow-through required for the position.
Who Will Thrive in This Role?
You are someone who:
Loves organization. You notice when something is out of place and naturally want to fix it.
Has exceptional attention to detail. A missing document, incorrect label, or disorganized binder matters to you.
Can handle volume. Legal cases generate a tremendous amount of information, and you are comfortable working through large quantities of documents.
Follows instructions precisely. Attorneys will provide specific instructions, and you will execute them accurately.
Takes ownership. You don't need someone constantly checking behind you to make sure a task was completed.
Communicates professionally. You understand that every interaction with a client, court, attorney, or colleague reflects on the Firm.
Is dependable. When the legal team is preparing for a hearing or trial, they need to know they can count on you.
Enjoys administrative work. This is important. We are looking for someone who wants to be an excellent administrative professional—not someone who is simply looking for a way into a paralegal career.
