Hawthorn Farm Athletic Club in Hillsboro, OR, is seeking an experienced, energetic, and organized Lead Swim Instructor to help lead our growing swim lesson program. This hands-on leadership position combines swim instruction with program coordination, instructor support, and a commitment to delivering an exceptional experience for swimmers and families.

The Lead Swim Instructor will teach group, private, and semi-private lessons while helping coordinate lesson schedules, instructor assignments, swimmer assessments, and daily program operations. This individual will also serve as a resource and mentor for fellow instructors, helping maintain consistent instruction standards and a positive learning environment.

The ideal candidate is a confident and enthusiastic swim instructor who enjoys working with swimmers of all ages and skill levels, demonstrates strong organizational and communication skills, and is ready to take on additional leadership responsibilities.

• Teach engaging group, private, and semi-private swim lessons in accordance with HFAC's instructional guidelines and swim level progression.

• Conduct swimmer assessments, monitor participant progress, and provide constructive feedback to swimmers and families.

• Coordinate swim lesson schedules, instructor assignments, class rosters, and lesson coverage to support efficient daily operations.

• Serve as a resource and mentor for swim instructors, providing guidance, training support, and feedback to promote consistent, high-quality instruction.

• Support program enrollment, swimmer retention, and overall swim lesson program growth.

• Maintain accurate attendance, swimmer progression, scheduling, and participant records.

• Communicate professionally with members and families regarding swim lessons, scheduling, skill development, and program expectations.

• Ensure a safe, clean, and organized aquatic learning environment by following safety procedures, enforcing club policies, and supporting emergency response protocols.

• Collaborate with club leadership and fellow instructors to identify opportunities for program improvement and enhance the overall member experience.

• Provide lesson coverage and assist with additional aquatic programming as needed.

• Previous experience teaching swim lessons to individuals of varying ages and skill levels.

• Strong knowledge of swimming techniques, stroke development, water safety, and instructional progression.

• Demonstrated ability to lead engaging, effective lessons while adapting instruction to individual swimmer needs.

• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to coordinate schedules, manage multiple priorities, and maintain accurate records.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with swimmers, families, and fellow instructors.

• Leadership qualities and a willingness to mentor, support, and develop other swim instructors.

• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and proactively identify and resolve program needs.

• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications, or ability to obtain them.

• Availability to work evenings and Saturdays during peak swim lesson times.

• Previous experience as a Lead or Senior Swim Instructor, coordinating aquatic programs, or managing instructor schedules preferred.

• Lifeguard certification and experience working in a swim school, aquatic center, or health club environment preferred.
