Coastal View Construction is hiring an experienced Senior Journeyman Carpenter for residential remodeling and construction on Maui.

Our projects include condo renovations, kitchens, bathrooms, whole-home remodels, and new home construction. We’re looking for someone who can handle advanced rough and finish carpentry, work independently, plan ahead, and catch problems before they cause delays or rework.

As a Senior Journeyman Carpenter, you’ll complete complex carpentry tasks with minimal supervision, mentor less experienced workers, and guide assigned work when you’re the most senior carpenter on site. You’ll also plan daily field work, direct the crew, check workmanship, and coordinate progress with the Project Manager.

Essential Duties

• Perform advanced rough and finish carpentry for residential remodeling, condo renovations, and new construction with minimal supervision.

• Read blueprints and specifications; measure, lay out, cut, and assemble materials accurately.

• Install framing, doors, windows, cabinetry, trim, drywall, flooring, and siding.

• Check that work is level, plumb, square, and complete; correct deficiencies before sign-off.

• Anticipate tools and material needs, resolve field issues within your authority, and report delays or decisions requiring approval.

• Inspect your work and the work of crew members assisting with the same task. Correct deficiencies before reporting the task complete.

• Identify field problems early, resolve issues within your authority, and report unclear conditions, delays, or decisions requiring approval to the Crew Lead or Project Manager.

• Plan ahead for tools, materials, consumables, and the next steps of assigned work.

• Follow OSHA, PPE, and condo association (AOAO) rules while protecting client property and keeping the site clean.

• Record accurate JobTread time by job and cost item, take progress photos, and complete assigned work on schedule.

• Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards throughout the day. Assist with site preparation and material handling as needed.

• Complete assigned work within established schedules and perform other job-related duties as directed.

Secondary Duties

• Assist with material selection, quantities, purchasing, and restocking.

• Support work sequencing, trade coordination, punch lists, and inspection preparation.

• Complete the JobTread Daily Log when serving as the most senior carpenter on site; otherwise, provide updates to the Crew Lead and Project Manager.

• Document completed work, field conditions, delays, and safety concerns.

• Maintain company tools and report damage or loss promptly.

• Assist with punch-list completion and preparation for inspections.

• Attend crew meetings, weekly safety toolbox talks, and required training.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Mentor less experienced crew members and demonstrate proper techniques.

• Guide assigned work when serving as the senior carpenter on site.

• As a secondary lead, you also have to plan daily work, delegate tasks, and monitor productivity and workmanship.

• Reinforce company standards for PPE, safety, cleanliness, tool care, and client-respect standards.

• Keep the Project Manager informed of progress, shortages, obstacles, and approval needs.

Requirements

• At least 4–5 years of hands-on carpentry experience, including residential remodeling and advanced rough and finish work.

• Strong blueprint reading, measuring, layout, construction math, and installation skills.

• Ability to work independently, troubleshoot field conditions, and ask questions when needed.

• Possess proven crew leadership, mentoring, planning, and quality-control experience.

• Own power tools and an internet-enabled smartphone; comfortable using JobTread.

• Currently on Maui with reliable transportation.

• Able to meet company PPE requirements, including safety footwear, hearing protection, and fit-tested respiratory protection for assigned dusty work.

• Organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and constructive under pressure.

• Works well with a small crew, communicates clearly, and follows company procedures and supervisor direction.

• Asks questions when instructions, site conditions, or project requirements are unclear.

Education & Training

• High school diploma or GED preferred.

• Completed carpentry apprenticeship or equivalent hands-on trade experience.

Physical Requirements

Carpentry keeps you moving. This role involves:

• Working on your feet, bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing.

• Handling tools and materials with care and precision.

• Staying alert to crew communication and job-site warnings.

• Lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds frequently; occasionally moving up to 100 pounds with assistance or equipment.

• Having the dexterity and visual accuracy needed for detailed installations.
