Our firm is hiring an associate attorney who will support us by conducting legal research, drafting documents, maintaining client files, and assisting with legal counsel. The ideal candidate will have some courtroom experience and strong legal research and writing skills. Responsibilities

Represent spouses, parents, and other individuals as their lawyer of record in family court actions
Represent the best interests of children in contested custody matters as a Guardian ad Litem
Conduct initial consultations with clients, evaluate the merits of their case, and provide sound advice on their best path forward
Draft pleadings, letters, and other court documents
Advocate for clients in hearings and mediations
Answer client questions and provide advice promptly
Maintain thorough records through the firm’s case management system to ensure everyone in the firm has access to the most up-to-date information regarding the case

Draft documents such as correspondence, pleadings, motions, briefs, affidavits, settlement agreements, and contracts to be used proceedings and contract negotiations
Communicate with senior associates, paralegals, and clients to ensure cases are handled efficiently
Keep files organized to make sure the most recent updates are accessible to other attorneys, paralegals, and staff
Assist clients in determining a proper solution to legal conflicts and determine the best course of action
Perform legal research, prepare for and attend hearings or other legal proceedings, and give general counsel under the supervision of senior associate attorneys

Qualifications

South Carolina Bar License or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire
Completion of South Carolina Rule 403 trial observation requirements or ability to complete requirements within 6 months of hire
Excellent knowledge of basic office programs, computer software, and online applications, and willingness to learn project and case management software

Successful completion of the bar exam
Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree required from an accredited law school
Ability to work with senior attorneys to best serve client needs and grow our client base
Member in good standing and actively involved with the ABA (American Bar Association)
Solid communication skills and problem-solving skills required in order to work with clients, staff members and senior attorneys

Compensation

$65,000 - $85,000/year
