Immigration Attorney

Mokolo Law Firm • Houston, TX, US

Posted 15 hours ago

Mokolo Law Firm is a growing Houston-area law firm seeking an experienced Immigration Attorney with approximately 2–5 years of substantive immigration law experience to join our team.

Our immigration practice represents individuals, families, professionals, and businesses in a broad range of immigration matters. We are looking for an attorney who understands that excellent immigration representation requires more than completing forms—it requires strong legal analysis, strategy, attention to detail, advocacy, and exceptional client communication.

The ideal candidate can take ownership of assigned cases, develop legal strategy, review work prepared by paralegals, communicate confidently with clients, and move cases forward without constant supervision.

What You’ll Do

The Immigration Attorney will manage and oversee a diverse immigration caseload that may include:

  • Family-based immigration and adjustment of status

  • Consular processing

  • Waivers, including I-601 and I-601A matters

  • Naturalization and citizenship matters

  • VAWA and other humanitarian immigration matters

  • U visas and T visas

  • Asylum matters

  • Removal defense and EOIR proceedings

  • Motions to reopen and other complex immigration matters

  • Employment-based immigration matters, depending on experience

  • Develop legal strategy and identify immigration options for clients

  • Independently manage assigned immigration matters from opening through resolution

  • Review applications, petitions, declarations, exhibits, and supporting evidence prepared by paralegals and legal staff

  • Draft complex legal arguments, motions, briefs, responses to RFEs and NOIDs, and other substantive filings

  • Prepare clients for USCIS interviews, asylum interviews, and immigration court proceedings

  • Attend USCIS interviews and represent clients before EOIR when applicable

  • Handle Master Calendar Hearings and Individual Hearings if experienced in removal defense

  • Conduct legal research involving complex immigration issues

  • Identify potential inadmissibility, removability, waiver, and eligibility issues before filing

  • Communicate clearly and consistently with clients regarding strategy, risks, expectations, and case developments

  • Supervise and provide substantive direction to paralegals and support staff

  • Maintain accurate case notes, deadlines, tasks, and case-management records

  • Collaborate with other attorneys on complex case strategy

  • Meet firm expectations regarding productivity, case management, responsiveness, and client service

Our ideal candidate has:

  • 2–5 years of substantive immigration law experience

  • Active and good-standing membership with the bar of any U.S. state or jurisdiction

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. immigration law and procedure

  • Experience independently managing immigration cases

  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills

  • Experience reviewing and supervising immigration filings prepared by paralegals

  • Excellent organizational and case-management skills

  • Strong client communication skills

  • The ability to identify legal issues and propose solutions rather than simply escalating problems

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines

  • Comfort using modern legal technology and case-management systems

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team

Spanish fluency is strongly preferred.

Experience representing clients before EOIR, including Master Calendar and Individual Hearings, is highly preferred but not required for an otherwise strong candidate.
