REPORTS TO
Operations Manager
ROLE TYPE
Non-attorney administrative position
The Human Resources Generalist will manage the Firm’s core HR functions while helping leadership build a consistent, accountable, and people-centered workplace. This position is ideal for an experienced HR professional who can move comfortably between employee conversations, recruiting, onboarding, performance management, benefits support, reporting, process improvement, and compliance details.
Clients are often navigating aging, incapacity, long-term care, the loss of a loved one, or difficult family decisions. The right HR Generalist understands that the way we hire, train, support, and hold employees accountable directly affects the care those clients receive.
What You’ll Own
Employee Relations and Performance Management
Serve as an approachable and objective resource for employee questions, concerns, and workplace issues.
Assist with coaching, conflict resolution, corrective action, performance improvement plans, and documentation in coordination with the Operations Manager and leadership.
Coordinate self-assessments, supervisor evaluations, performance reviews, and required follow-up.
Promote fairness, consistency, professionalism, and accountability across the Firm.
Recruiting and Onboarding
Coordinate recruiting for attorney and non-attorney positions, including job postings, resume screening, interview scheduling, and candidate communication.
Partner with leadership to clarify hiring needs, position requirements, and workforce priorities.
Manage onboarding so new hires receive required documentation, orientation, payroll and benefit information, and systems access during their first week.
Benefits, HR Systems, and Process Improvement
Support benefit enrollments, employee changes, open enrollment, and coordination with providers.
Help resolve payroll questions and discrepancies while ensuring changes are documented accurately and timely.
Maintain applicant-tracking and HRIS platforms and prepare reports on headcount, turnover, recruiting, performance management, and compliance.
Improve HR workflows and maintain clear, current training and process documentation in Trainual.
Assist with policies, handbooks, employee training, and consistent policy implementation across departments.
HR Compliance and Administration
Maintain compliant HR practices in accordance with federal, Kentucky, and local employment requirements.
Keep employee records, documentation, and personnel files accurate, current, and confidential.
Support audits, reporting requirements, policy interpretation, and internal compliance reviews.
Monitor attendance, leave, and PTO practices and provide timely information to the Operations Manager for scheduling needs.
The Cultural Fit We Need
This is a high-trust role. Technical HR knowledge matters, but how you use it matters just as much.
You handle confidential information with exceptional discretion and mature judgment.
You remain calm, fair, and professional during difficult or high-conflict conversations.
You can demonstrate empathy without avoiding accountability or lowering standards.
You listen before reaching conclusions, document carefully, and escalate appropriately.
You follow through, close communication loops, and do not allow important HR details to drift.
You are comfortable improving systems while continuing to execute the daily work.
You embrace the Firm’s mission and values, model them personally, and respectfully hold others accountable to do the same.
You value teamwork and client service over ego, status, or personal recognition.
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
At least five years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a law firm or other professional-services environment.
Strong working knowledge of employment laws, compliance requirements, employee relations, performance management, recruiting, and onboarding.
Experience using HR software, applicant-tracking systems, payroll tools, HRIS platforms, and process-documentation systems such as Trainual.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
Experience in a law firm, healthcare organization, financial-services business, or another confidential and client-centered environment is strongly preferred.
How Success Will Be Measured
HR compliance and record accuracy: Complete the prior month’s compliance and employee-file audit by the 10th business day, maintain at least 98% record accuracy, and correct all identified deficiencies within five business days.
Recruiting and onboarding timeliness: Fill at least 90% of approved attorney and non-attorney openings within 45 calendar days and complete all required new-hire documentation, payroll and benefit elections, and systems access by the end of each employee’s first week.
Performance-management completion: Achieve at least 95% on-time completion of scheduled reviews and document all approved performance improvement or corrective-action follow-up within five business days of the leadership decision.
This Role Is Not for Everyone
You should not apply if you:
Treat confidentiality casually or rely on verbal recollection instead of documentation.
Avoid difficult conversations, allow missed deadlines to linger, or apply policies based on personal relationships.
Need every process to be fully built before you can take ownership and move work forward.
View recruiting, onboarding, file accuracy, or follow-through as secondary administrative tasks.
Approach HR as only protecting the employer or only advocating for employees; this role requires balanced, objective judgment.
