We're searching for an experienced assistant general manager to help our general manager plan and oversee the hotel's day-to-day operations. When the general manager is unavailable, you will be in charge of supervising personnel, dealing with client problems, and ensuring that our customers enjoy a 5-star experience.

- Serve as the manager on duty and assume leadership of the property when the General Manager is unavailable.
- Supervise, support, and provide direction to Front Desk, Housekeeping, Maintenance, and other hotel departments.
- Assist with employee scheduling and ensure appropriate staffing levels based on occupancy and business needs.
- Participate in interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, and development of team members.
- Monitor employee performance and assist with counseling, corrective actions, and performance improvement when necessary.
- Ensure employees follow company policies, brand standards, attendance expectations, dress code, and established operating procedures.
- Conduct regular property and room inspections to ensure cleanliness, maintenance, safety, and presentation standards are met.
- Monitor guest satisfaction and respond professionally to guest complaints, concerns, and service-recovery situations.
- Assist the Front Desk during high-volume periods, including check-ins, checkouts, reservations, billing questions, and guest requests.
- Review daily operational reports, occupancy, arrivals, departures, room status, outstanding balances, and other property activity.
- Assist with managing guest accounts, payment collection, direct billing, credit card issues, and long-term/extended-stay accounts.
- Ensure proper cash-handling, payment, deposit, and financial-control procedures are followed.
- Work closely with Housekeeping to ensure rooms are cleaned, inspected, and released promptly.
- Coordinate with Maintenance to identify and prioritize repairs, preventative maintenance, out-of-order rooms, and safety concerns.
- Assist with inventory management, ordering, receiving, and maintaining appropriate supply levels while controlling costs.
- Help manage labor expenses, overtime, operational expenses, and other controllable costs.
- Ensure required employee training and certifications are completed and properly documented.
- Assist with maintaining required operational, safety, emergency, HR, and brand-compliance documentation.
- Support preparation for brand inspections, quality assurance inspections, ownership visits, and corporate reviews.
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for guests and employees and properly document incidents, accidents, and safety concerns.
- Communicate effectively with vendors, corporate representatives, ownership, sales contacts, and other business partners as needed.
- Assist with group reservations, corporate accounts, extended-stay guests, and special billing arrangements.
- Lead daily operational communication between departments and ensure important information is properly passed between shifts.
- Help establish a positive workplace culture built around professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and guest service.
- Identify operational problems and work with the General Manager to implement solutions and improve hotel performance.
- Perform other management and operational duties as assigned by the General Manager.
- Recommend improvements that will improve the hotel profitability by analyzing department performance and identifying problem areas
- Deliver support to the human resources department to help them improve turnover management, employee motivation, and staff growth and retention
- Collaborate with department heads and the general manager to develop an annual budget, and assess performance throughout the year, making modifications as needed to preserve profitability
- Manage compliance with company or brand established policies and procedures and any local, state, and federal laws and regulations
- Consult with the general manager to ensure that all guest service standards are met daily
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of hotel/hospitality experience, preferably including Front Desk or hotel operations.
At least 1 year of supervisory or management experience strongly preferred.
Previous extended-stay hotel experience is a plus.
Strong understanding of hotel operations, including Front Desk, Housekeeping, Maintenance, reservations, and guest services.
Experience supervising, coaching, training, and holding team members accountable.
Excellent customer service and guest-recovery skills with the ability to professionally resolve complaints and difficult situations.
Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to make independent operational decisions and confidently act as Manager on Duty.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
Basic understanding of hotel financial operations, including guest folios, payments, deposits, direct billing, cash handling, and account reconciliation.
Experience with a hotel Property Management System (PMS) preferred; Choice Hotels systems experience is a plus.
Proficiency with computers, email, Microsoft Office, and basic administrative systems.
Ability to prepare schedules, reports, incident documentation, employee documentation, and other operational records.
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to work collaboratively with Front Desk, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Sales, and hotel leadership.
Dependable, professional, and able to maintain confidentiality when handling employee, guest, and business information.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.
Must be able to respond appropriately to hotel emergencies and unexpected operational situations.
Must meet any applicable company requirements regarding background screening, driving, or other employment requirements.
- This position requires a high school diploma or GED, and a bachelor's degree with preference given to those with a hospitality management degree
- Must have at least 3 or more years of experience in the hospitality field
- Must have a strong focus on putting the guest first with exceptional customer service experience
- Showcase exceptional organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Previous experience managing a team is required; preferably in a hospitality role such as department manager
Compensation
$45,000 - $55,000
