Big Money Retirement is looking for a detail-oriented, analytical, and self-directed Financial Analyst to partner with our Lead Advisors in developing thorough financial planning analyses for both prospective and current clients.
This position goes well beyond entering information or producing standard reports.
As a Financial Analyst, you will be an important part of the planning process. You’ll take detailed client information, financial statements, and Advisor objectives and turn them into accurate, easy-to-understand analysis that can be used in client meetings. You’ll collaborate with Lead Advisors to determine the questions that need to be answered, develop financial projections and planning scenarios, complete cash-flow analysis, and make sure Advisors are well prepared before meeting with clients.
The ideal candidate is someone who stays one step ahead. You won’t be dependent on a daily checklist to determine what needs to happen next. Instead, you’ll regularly review upcoming Advisor meetings, anticipate the preparation required, recognize when additional client information is needed, follow up for missing documentation, and prioritize your workload around deadlines and meeting schedules.
You should enjoy working with numbers while also being able to communicate the story behind those numbers. Success in this role requires strong analytical ability, excellent organization, sound judgment, and the confidence to discuss your findings directly with Lead Advisors.
Financial Planning & Modeling
● Develop financial planning models and analyses using Firm-approved planning technology.
● Work regularly with platforms including Kwanti, RightCapital, Nitrogen, Stonewood, and Social Security Timing, as well as other financial planning tools adopted by the Firm.
● Review financial information for clients and prospects to assist with retirement planning and asset-allocation conversations.
● Create retirement-income forecasts and household cash-flow projections.
● Perform portfolio and investment-allocation analysis.
● Complete risk assessments and compare alternative planning scenarios.
● Analyze Social Security claiming strategies and timing options.
● Build customized scenarios based on questions and objectives identified by Lead Advisors.
● Evaluate the effects of different retirement dates, spending levels, income sources, portfolio allocations, withdrawal approaches, and other planning assumptions.
● Validate planning inputs for completeness, accuracy, and reasonableness.
● Confirm that account balances, account classifications, client ages, income sources, assumptions, and other relevant data have been entered correctly.
● Flag discrepancies, missing information, or questionable data before analysis is delivered to an Advisor.
● Keep planning documentation, supporting records, and completed analyses organized and accessible.
Peace of Mind Cash-Flow Analysis
● Complete Big Money Retirement’s one-page Peace of Mind cash-flow analysis for each allocation meeting.
● Collect and organize the household financial information required to accurately illustrate the client’s overall financial position.
● Incorporate relevant Social Security benefits, pensions, investment income, retirement distributions, expenses, assets, cash reserves, tax assumptions, and other cash-flow factors.
● Turn detailed financial information into a straightforward, client-friendly one-page summary. ● Verify the analysis for accuracy before submitting it to the Lead Advisor.
● Spot potential cash-flow issues, planning deficiencies, or assumptions that warrant further discussion.
● Help Advisors identify the primary factors influencing the results and the variables that could significantly change the outcome.
Advisor Support & Planning Priorities
● Review Lead Advisor calendars each business day and stay informed about upcoming client and prospect appointments.
● Determine in advance what analysis, documentation, and preparation will be required for each meeting.
● Independently rank and schedule assignments based on meeting dates, complexity, preparation requirements, and client priorities.
● Maintain a clear understanding of assignments that are pending, underway, awaiting information, or finished.
● Recognize possible scheduling or capacity issues before they become urgent.
● Discuss expected completion dates with Lead Advisors and establish practical timelines.
● Communicate potential delays or changes in timing before deadlines are missed.
● Manage work across multiple Advisors, meetings, financial plans, and competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
Client & Prospect Information Collection
● Review client and prospect files to verify that required financial statements and supporting information have been received.
● Determine when statements are missing, incomplete, or no longer current.
● Contact prospects and clients professionally when additional financial documentation is required.
● Explain clearly what information is needed and the applicable timeframe.
● Follow up when requested documentation remains outstanding.
● Examine received statements to ensure they are readable, complete, current, and appropriate for the analysis being performed.
● Alert the Lead Advisor when missing information could interfere with completing planning work on time.
Partnership With Lead Advisors
● Meet with Lead Advisors to understand the objective behind each planning assignment.
● Ask effective questions to determine what the Advisor wants to illustrate or accomplish in an upcoming meeting.
● Convert Advisor requests into relevant financial models, calculations, and scenarios.
● Assist with developing and comparing alternative planning strategies.
● Help Advisors assess different approaches before recommendations are presented to clients. ● Bring unusual results, potential planning concerns, or unexpected outcomes to the Advisor’s attention.
● Incorporate Advisor feedback and make appropriate changes to analyses.
● Confirm that all completed materials are accurate, organized, and ready for the Advisor to use.
Analysis Summaries & Communication
● Prepare concise overviews of important planning work for Lead Advisors.
● Explain what analysis was performed and the purpose behind it.
● Clearly document and communicate the assumptions incorporated into financial models.
● Distinguish the meaningful differences between competing scenarios.
● Explain changes in assumptions and how those changes influence the resulting plan.
● Point out material risks, limitations, open questions, or areas requiring additional verification. ● Identify client information that should be confirmed before recommendations are finalized.
● Clearly communicate why a particular financial plan appears viable—or where the plan may have shortcomings.
● Focus Advisors on the most meaningful conclusions rather than requiring them to interpret numerous reports independently.
The successful candidate will:
● Enjoy investigating analytical and financial questions.
● Be naturally curious about the reasons behind financial results.
● Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail.
● Be highly organized and effective at managing multiple deadlines.
● Work independently and make sound decisions about competing priorities.
● Anticipate upcoming needs rather than simply reacting to assigned tasks.
● Be comfortable handling detailed and sensitive financial information.
● Learn new financial planning software and technology quickly.
● Understand that planning software is a tool and that meaningful analysis still requires human judgment.
● Consistently review work before considering an assignment complete.
● Be willing to question information or results that appear inconsistent or incorrect.
● Raise concerns early rather than allowing issues to surface at the deadline.
● Explain complicated financial concepts in a straightforward and understandable manner.
● Enjoy close collaboration with financial Advisors.
● Ask thoughtful questions whenever objectives, assumptions, or expectations are unclear.
● Set realistic expectations around workload and delivery dates.
● Communicate professionally with clients and prospects when collecting financial information. ● Take responsibility for assignments from initial request through final completion.
● Stay composed, organized, and productive while balancing competing demands.
● Value precision, preparation, accountability, and ongoing improvement.
