January Family Law is a small, remote-first firm helping individuals through some of the hardest chapters of their lives. We're growing, and we're looking for an experienced family law attorney to join our team. You'll own your caseload, communicate clearly and compassionately with clients, and stay composed in high-stress situations. Our sales team handles consultations, so you can focus on practicing law. This is a remote position, with in-person court appearances as needed.

• Manage an active domestic relations caseload independently, from assignment after the sales consult through resolution. Meet all court and filing deadlines.

• Give clients timely, proactive updates.

• Represent clients in divorce, parenting time and allocation of parental responsibilities, child support, maintenance, and parentage matters.

• Draft and advise on prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.

• Handle property division, including real estate and retirement assets.

• Draft pleadings, motions, settlement agreements, parenting plans, judgments, and orders.

• Negotiate settlements and represent clients at hearings, mediations, and trial.

• Stay composed and professional when handling sensitive issues such as domestic violence and child-related concerns.

• Keep case notes, tasks, and deadlines current in Smokeball.

• Work with paralegals and administrative staff, and work independently in a primarily remote environment.

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.

• Active Illinois law license in good standing, or eligible for admission in Illinois.

• 2+ years of family law experience at a law firm, including contested matters and court appearances.

• Proven record of advocating for petitioners and respondents.

• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to stay composed in highly stressful and emotional situations.

• Ability to appear in person at court hearings and trials as needed.

• Experience in Cook County and collar county domestic relations courts is a plus.
