Experienced Litigation Paralegal (Hybrid)

Are you an experienced Litigation Paralegal who takes pride in and independently manages your cases with precision, ownership, and professionalism? Do you know the last two steps in your cases – and the next three?

We’re looking for a proactive litigation paralegal who doesn’t wait to be told what comes next. You understand the litigation process, anticipate procedural requirements, keep cases moving, and make sure attorneys are prepared for what lies ahead.

JDS Law protects good employers from bad employees. If this mission resonates with you, then please keep reading.

JDS Law is a Temecula-based firm where paralegals are trusted teammates throughout the client’s journey, and where high standards are paired with reasonable expectations. If you thrive on taking ownership of the day-to-day litigation process, collaborating with attorneys on case strategy, and seeing matters through from beginning to end, this may be the job for you.

We are looking for someone with at least 5 years of recent California civil litigation paralegal experience who wants fulfilling work, a supportive and stimulating environment, and a reasonable workload.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Full-time or part-time hourly position.

  • Hybrid arrangement available, with several in-office days each month, based on demonstrated ability and business needs.

  • Competitive compensation package, based on skill set, experience, and location:

  • Salary range is $32-$40 per hour ($66,560-$83,200 annually) for full-time work in California.

  • Benefits available: Paid Vacation, Sick Time, and Holidays; Medical and Dental Insurance coverage; and 401(k) with employer matching.

Qualified applicants, please submit the following to Jenny Shin by email to info@jdslawyers.com: resume, recent writing sample of a document filed in a California court, and 3-5 sentences answering the question: Describe an example of how you anticipated a procedural deadline, requirement, or issue in a litigation matter and proactively took steps to address it before the attorney asked.

Selected candidates will participate in a multi-step interview process including skills testing and reference checks.

Applicants who do not follow the above next steps when applying will not be considered for the position.

  • Take ownership of the day-to-day procedural management of assigned California civil litigation matters, from inception through resolution, in collaboration with the responsible attorney.

  • Perform preliminary legal research, including statutory and case law, confirm local rules and applicable procedures, and work with attorneys to develop and implement legal strategy.

  • Draft legal forms and documents, including pleadings, case management reports, motions, and settlement agreements.

  • Manage and produce discovery requests and responses, including interrogatories, document requests, subpoenas, and requests for admission.

  • Proactively manage the litigation calendar and track and enforce deadlines.

  • Effectively communicate with court clerks, witnesses, and opposing counsel.

  • Organize and manage the case file through the entire lifecycle, and prepare case summaries for the legal team and client.

  • Ensure attorneys are prepared for court appearances through trial, compile and organize trial preparation materials, and assist in the courtroom.

  • Minimum billable and collected hours: 1,450 per year for full-time. We prioritize high-quality, sustainable work – not burnout.

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of recent, firsthand experience as a paralegal in California civil litigation (employment litigation experience preferred; probate disputes experience a plus).

  • Education: Completion of an approved paralegal program or equivalent law-related work experience as a paralegal.

  • Litigation Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of California Rules of Court and Code of Civil Procedure – this is not a training role.

  • Drafting: Comfortable drafting pleadings, discovery, and motions with minimal revision.

  • Technology: Proficiency in Microsoft Office/365 preferred. Familiarity with Clio Manage is a plus.

  • Professional Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, proactive communication, sound judgment, and consistent follow-through.

Compensation

$32 - $40 hourly
