Estate Planning Attorney | California | Remote or Hybrid
Baron Family Law is expanding its estate planning practice and is seeking an experienced California Estate Planning Attorney with strong estate plan design, drafting, and client counseling skills.
This role is focused on helping California clients protect their families, assets, and legacies through thoughtful, accurate, customized estate planning.
This is not a probate-focused position. Our priority is estate planning, drafting, execution, trust funding, and client counseling.
The position may be fully remote within California. Attorneys who prefer a hybrid schedule may also work through our Sacramento or Beverly Hills offices.
About the Opportunity
Baron Family Law is intentionally building estate planning into a meaningful statewide practice area.
Our initial focus is on straightforward to moderately complex flat-fee estate planning matters, with room to grow into more sophisticated planning as the practice expands.
The attorney joining us should be able to independently counsel clients, identify planning issues, develop appropriate strategies, and translate those strategies into technically sound estate planning documents.
This is more than a document-production role.
We are looking for someone who combines strong legal judgment and drafting skills with an interest in helping build a modern, systems-driven estate planning practice.
Compensation
Base salary: $100,000 to $120,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, substantive drafting ability, WealthCounsel experience, and the level of estate planning work the attorney can independently manage.
The position will also be eligible for a separate estate-planning performance incentive program based on practice performance and individual contribution.
Unlike our litigation attorney compensation model, estate planning incentives will not be based primarily on billable hours.
Benefits for eligible employees currently include:
Medical insurance, with the firm currently paying 80% of the employee-only premium.
100% employer-paid employee-only dental and vision premiums.
Dependent medical, dental, and vision coverage available at plan rates.
CalSavers retirement savings participation.
Flexible non-accrual vacation after the applicable introductory period, subject to approval and coverage requirements.
Paid sick leave and other protected leave as required by applicable law.
Professional development opportunities.
Remote-first work environment.
Location
This is a California-only position.
Candidates must be licensed to practice law in California and perform their work from California.
The position may be:
Fully remote within California.
Hybrid in Sacramento.
Hybrid in Beverly Hills / Los Angeles.
Our practice serves clients statewide.
Schedule
Full-time, exempt.
Attorneys must maintain reliable availability during normal California business hours for client meetings, document review, signing appointments, team collaboration, and other practice responsibilities.
Our Standard
Clients trust us with decisions that affect their families, assets, businesses, and futures.
That means the documents must be right.
We expect attorneys to take ownership, communicate clearly, meet deadlines, double-check their work, identify risks early, and raise questions before a potential issue becomes a client problem.
We do not expect perfection.
We do expect accountability, strong judgment, thoughtful client care, and a commitment to getting the work right.
If you are a California estate planning attorney who enjoys client counseling, substantive drafting, and helping build a modern estate planning practice, we would like to meet you.
Baron Family Law is an equal opportunity employer. Employment decisions are made based on qualifications, performance, business needs, and applicable law.
Current Practice Expectations
Our current planning model anticipates approximately two to four new estate planning clients per month initially, with room to grow as attorney capacity, internal referrals, professional referrals, organic demand, and marketing expand.
Current matters are expected to be primarily straightforward to moderately complex flat-fee estate plans.
This is not a traditional hourly production role, and it does not use Baron Family Law's family-law billable-hour production model.
Performance will focus on the quality and accuracy of legal work, client experience, matter completion, responsiveness, practice growth, and the financial health of the estate planning practice.
More Complex Planning
Depending on experience, matters may also involve:
Higher-net-worth clients.
Blended families.
Business owners.
Multiple real properties.
Separate and community property characterization.
Asset protection considerations.
Irrevocable trusts.
Life insurance planning.
Retirement assets.
Beneficiary planning.
Special-needs considerations.
Estate and gift tax concepts.
Multigenerational wealth transfer.
We do not expect one attorney to know every advanced planning strategy.
We do expect excellent issue spotting, careful research, strong judgment, and an understanding of when specialized tax, financial, or other professional guidance is appropriate.
What You’ll Own

Meet directly with clients to understand their family structure, assets, concerns, goals, and legacy objectives.
Identify estate planning needs and recommend appropriate California planning strategies.

Identify issues involving community property, separate property, blended families, minor children, real property, businesses, retirement accounts, and other assets.
Recognize when a matter requires collaboration with a CPA, financial advisor, tax professional, business attorney, or other specialist.

A significant part of this position is substantive drafting.
You will independently design, draft, review, revise, and finalize estate planning documents, including:
Revocable living trusts.

WealthCounsel and Practice Systems
Baron Family Law uses modern technology and structured workflows to support quality, consistency, and client confidence.
Experience using WealthCounsel is strongly preferred.
The attorney will be expected to use WealthCounsel or comparable estate planning technology to:
Draft and customize estate planning documents efficiently.
Apply independent legal judgment rather than relying on document automation alone.
Maintain consistency across all documents within a plan.
Identify and correct drafting inconsistencies before documents reach the client.
Track planning decisions, execution status, and funding requirements.
Participate in quality-control processes.
Help refine templates, drafting standards, checklists, and workflows as the practice grows.
New Law Business Model and Client Experience
Baron Family Law is developing its estate planning practice using principles and systems associated with the New Law Business Model, including structured planning conversations, strong client education, proactive communication, documented follow-through, and a high-touch client experience.
Prior experience with the New Law Business Model is a plus, but is not required.
The attorney should be comfortable:
Following structured estate planning workflows.
Conducting substantive planning sessions.
Educating clients about their options before asking them to make decisions.
Moving matters forward proactively.
Documenting planning decisions clearly.
Delivering a consistent client experience from initial planning through signing and funding.
Helping improve SOPs, templates, checklists, and client-facing materials.
Working within a flat-fee estate planning model.
Execution and Trust Funding
Prepare clients for signing and execution.
Review final documents with clients and answer questions.
Ensure execution requirements are followed correctly.
Guide clients regarding trust funding and asset titling.
Assist with deeds and related documentation.
Provide clear funding instructions and follow-up.
Maintain documentation showing the status of execution and funding.
Practice Growth
Estate planning is a growth practice at Baron Family Law.
The attorney will have opportunities to participate in:
Client education.
Professional presentations.
Referral relationship development.
Relationships with CPAs, financial advisors, wealth managers, insurance professionals, and other trusted advisors.
Estate planning education for existing Baron Family Law clients.
Development of estate-planning content and client resources.
Growth of the firm's estate-planning systems and service offerings.
A significant opportunity exists to serve existing family-law and premarital-agreement clients whose estate plans should be created or updated following major life events.

Substantive California estate planning experience.

Strong working knowledge of California trusts and estate planning law.

Ability to work from within California.
Strongly Preferred
Three or more years of substantive California estate planning experience.
Significant experience drafting revocable living trusts and comprehensive estate plans.

The Attorney Who Will Thrive Here

Can listen carefully to a client's goals and translate those goals into the right legal structure.
Double-check your work.
Spot inconsistencies before documents reach a client.
Take ownership of your matters.
Communicate early when something is unclear or a problem develops.
Work independently without becoming isolated from the team.
