Description

Spitz, The Employee’s Law Firm, is hiring an Employee Rights Attorney for our Houston, Texas office.

Houston workers come from every industry, background, and walk of life. Some are professionals who were pushed out after requesting medical leave. Some are hourly employees who were denied overtime. Some reported harassment, discrimination, safety concerns, or illegal conduct and then found themselves suddenly written up, demoted, or fired. When employees are treated unlawfully, they need a lawyer who can help them understand what happened, what rights they have, and what can be done next.

That is where you come in.

This role is focused on representing employees in workplace disputes from the early stages of a case through litigation. You will meet directly with clients, investigate facts, review records, prepare administrative filings, communicate with agencies, negotiate with employers, and help develop case strategy. You will work with clients who need practical guidance, steady communication, and strong advocacy during one of the most stressful periods of their lives.

We are looking for an attorney who wants responsibility, client contact, and meaningful work. The right candidate is organized, persuasive, emotionally intelligent, and willing to learn. You do not need to already be an employment law expert. You do need to care about employees, communicate clearly, manage deadlines, and take ownership of your work.

At Spitz, you will be part of a growing employee-side employment law firm that fights for workers, not corporations. Our attorneys receive support, training, and the opportunity to build real litigation skills while doing work that matters.

This is a strong opportunity for a Houston attorney who wants to develop as an advocate, serve employees across Texas, and build a career in employment law with purpose.

Responsibilities

  • Represent employees in Houston and across Texas in workplace disputes involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, wage violations, medical leave issues, disability accommodations, and related employment claims.
  • Meet directly with clients to understand what happened, identify key events, evaluate documents, assess witnesses, and determine the best path forward.
  • Investigate workplace claims by gathering facts, building timelines, reviewing employment records, analyzing employer policies, and identifying evidence that supports the client’s case.
  • Prepare EEOC charges, Texas Workforce Commission Civil Rights Division filings, amendments, rebuttals, supporting evidence submissions, and related administrative documents.
  • Communicate with administrative agencies, investigators, opposing counsel, employers, witnesses, and clients to move claims forward.
  • Draft demand letters, settlement proposals, factual summaries, client updates, pleadings, discovery, and other case materials.
  • Negotiate with employers and opposing counsel to pursue fair pre-suit and litigation resolutions for clients.
  • Evaluate liability, damages, credibility issues, defenses, deadlines, exhaustion requirements, and litigation risks.
  • Work with litigation attorneys and support staff to transition cases from the administrative stage into litigation when settlement is not possible.
  • Assist with discovery, deposition preparation, mediation preparation, motion support, and trial preparation as cases develop.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients so they understand the status of their case, the legal process, upcoming deadlines, and strategic decisions.
  • Manage deadlines, case tasks, agency communications, and client expectations with strong organization and follow-through.
  • Help clients feel heard, respected, and represented during a difficult and often emotional employment dispute.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in Texas, awaiting Texas bar results, or eligible for prompt admission in Texas.
  • Strong interest in employee rights, workplace fairness, civil rights, litigation, or plaintiff-side advocacy.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with clients, agencies, opposing counsel, witnesses, and internal team members.
  • Strong writing skills for administrative charges, demand letters, rebuttals, pleadings, discovery, settlement materials, and client communications.
  • Ability to listen carefully, ask good questions, and identify the important facts in complicated workplace situations.
  • Sound judgment when evaluating claims, deadlines, damages, defenses, credibility issues, and litigation risks.
  • Empathy and patience when working with clients who may be dealing with job loss, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, financial stress, or uncertainty.
  • Strong organization, time management, and follow-through in a deadline-driven legal environment.
  • Willingness to learn employment law, administrative agency practice, negotiation strategy, discovery, depositions, mediation, and trial preparation.
  • Self-motivated work style with the ability to take ownership of assignments and move cases forward.
  • Prior experience with employment law, civil rights, EEOC/TWC proceedings, plaintiff-side litigation, or courtroom advocacy is helpful, but not required.

Compensation

$65,000 - $90,000/year
