Education Law & Civil Litigation Attorney (7+yrs)
$175,000-$215,000 Base Salary (Depending on Experience)
Hybrid - El Segundo (Los Angeles County) or Fully Remote (CA)
Represent students and families, not school districts or universities, in Title IX, discipline, expulsion, and professional-school matters. You will also carry a civil litigation docket where you first-chair depositions, argue your own motions, and will first or second chair trials.
Your Experience Should Mean More.
At Hahn Legal Group, APC, a boutique law firm established in 2009, our practice has two sides. In education law, we defend students and families in Title IX proceedings, discipline and expulsion, academic misconduct and plagiarism matters, discrimination claims, and professional-school appeals. Education cases decide whether a student graduates, keeps a scholarship, enters a profession, and can repay student loans. In civil litigation, we handle personal injury, business, construction, premises liability, and insurance disputes in state and federal courts across California.
We are looking for an experienced Litigation Attorney who brings strong judgment, sophisticated litigation skills, and a passion for protecting clients’ civil rights and due process. If you have defended districts, you already know how the other side thinks, and that is an advantage here.
Why Hahn Legal Group?
At Hahn Legal Group, you will have the opportunity to:
You carry your own matters. Expect to first-chair depositions, own your motion calendar, and speak to clients directly, from intake to resolution.
You appear in administrative and court hearings. We staff leanly, so associates argue their own motions rather than watching a partner argue them.
Education law is teachable. We train litigators as necessary into this practice; prior education experience is welcome but not expected.
Have strong mentoring with access to experienced attorneys and strategists.
Partner with passionate colleagues to advocate successfully for clients in crisis, understanding how their legal issues affect their lives and crafting creative solutions that meet their needs.
What You'll Do:
You will:
Manage a caseload of active matters from evaluation through resolution.
Work with clients to build and execute case strategies.
Draft and argue law-and-motion in state and federal courts.
Prepare for and guide clients through education administrative procedures.
Take and defend depositions.
Prepare, respond to, and manage written discovery.
Represent students and families in Title IX hearings, disciplinary proceedings, and administrative appeals.
Prepare matters for trial and arbitration, and second-chair or first-chair as your experience supports.
Keep clients timely informed without being chased for updates.
What We're Looking For:
Required:
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
Active California Bar membership in good standing
7+ years of civil litigation experience
Demonstrated experience with motion practice, discovery, depositions, hearings, and trial preparation, and possible trial experience
Experience practicing litigation in state and federal courts
Strong legal research, writing and oral advocacy skills
The ability to run complex matters independently while working with a team
Helpful experience areas (not required): education law from pre-schools to post graduate programs, disability and special education law, Title IX, administrative hearings, personal injury and/or construction litigation experience. We train strong litigators into education law practice.
