We are seeking an experienced, motivated Criminal Defense Paralegal to join our growing firm. This position is ideal for someone who is organized, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced legal environment. We’re looking for a paralegal who takes ownership of their work, stays ahead of deadlines, and understands how to effectively support busy attorneys while providing an exceptional level of service to clients.

Provide comprehensive case support to assigned criminal defense attorneys from intake through case resolution
Maintain and organize case files, ensuring documents, correspondence, evidence, and case information are accurate and up to date
Draft and prepare legal documents, correspondence, motions, discovery requests, subpoenas, and other case-related materials
Review, organize, and summarize discovery, including police reports, videos, photographs, records, and other evidence
Manage attorney calendars, court settings, deadlines, hearings, and case-related appointments
Communicate professionally and regularly with clients regarding case status, upcoming court dates, document requests, and other case-related matters
Coordinate with courts, prosecutors' offices, law enforcement agencies, experts, investigators, and other outside parties
Obtain records, discovery, videos, and other documentation necessary for case preparation
Assist attorneys with trial, hearing, and court preparation, including organizing exhibits and case materials
Monitor cases proactively to identify upcoming deadlines, outstanding tasks, and items requiring attorney attention
Accurately document case activity and communications in the firm's case management system
Assist with closing files and ensuring all final documentation and administrative requirements are completed
Maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive client and case information
Manage multiple cases and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
Take ownership of assigned responsibilities, anticipate attorney needs, and follow tasks through to completion
Provide additional administrative and case-related support as needed
Bilingual candidates preferred
3+ years of paralegal or legal assistant experience; criminal defense experience strongly preferred
Working knowledge of criminal court procedures, filings, discovery, and case management
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases, deadlines, and competing priorities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and follow assignments through to completion
Strong sense of urgency and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Professional and confident when communicating with clients, attorneys, courts, and outside agencies
Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information
Comfortable learning and working with case management software and other legal technology
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and general office technology
Reliable, accountable, and team-oriented
Paralegal certificate or degree preferred, but not required with relevant experience
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, and comfortable taking ownership of their attorneys' caseloads. They anticipate what needs to happen next, communicate before issues become problems, and understand that responsiveness and follow-through are critical in a criminal defense practice.
Compensation
$55,000 - $70,000 Based on Experience
