Description

SSHO - Federal/Medical Jobs - Johnson City, TN - $100k-$120k

We’re hiring a Construction Site Safety Manager (SSHO) to join our team. You’ll own the build-out of our jobsite safety management system - policies, procedures, and field execution that meet all applicable safety regulations. This role is hands-on: maintain and document safety standards, spot issues early, and drive corrective actions to closure.

We’re also open to an aspiring Assistant Superintendent / Project Supervisor who wants to grow into a safety leadership role. If you have 3–5 years of field leadership experience and you’re ready to be trained into a strong safety manager - while communicating clearly with crews and leadership - apply now.

Why This Role Matters

  • Prevent incidents and shutdowns through strong pre-task planning
  • Enforce subcontractor compliance and jobsite standards
  • Keep safety documentation audit-ready (federal/medical expectations)

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Own daily jobsite safety execution for active projects in/around Johnson City, TN (travel as needed).
  • Build, implement, and enforce the Site Safety & Health Plan (SSHP/SSSP) and AHA/JHA/JSA process.
  • Lead new-hire/sub orientation, daily/weekly toolbox talks, and task-specific safety training.
  • Perform jobsite inspections/audits; document findings, corrective actions, and verify closeout.
  • Manage incident and near-miss reporting, investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Enforce subcontractor safety compliance with clear expectations and stop-work authority when required.
  • Support high-risk work controls (fall protection, excavation, scaffolding, crane/rigging, hot work, confined space, LOTO).
  • Maintain audit-ready safety documentation aligned with federal/medical client requirements.
  • Use digital tools to track and report safety items (Autodesk Build, iAuditor/SafetyCulture, or similar).
  • Coordinate with PMs/Supers to plan safe work before it starts—safety that supports production.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5 years of construction safety experience, or 3 years with CSP, CSHT certifications, or a safety and health degree from an accredited university.
  • Proven experience leading safety on active construction sites (GC or prime sub).
  • Strong OSHA field knowledge and the ability to apply it to real work in the field.
  • Hands-on experience with AHA/JHA/JSA, pre-task planning, and site-specific safety plans.
  • Experience running orientations, toolbox talks, and jobsite safety training.
  • Strong incident/near-miss investigation skills (RCA + corrective action closeout).
  • Ability to manage subcontractor compliance and enforce standards consistently.
  • Strong written documentation and communication skills.
  • OSHA 30 and CPR/First Aid (or ability to obtain quickly).
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to travel to jobsites as needed.

Also Considered (Train-into-Safety Path)

  • 3–5 years as an Assistant Superintendent/Project Supervisor with strong field leadership (must still have the required safety experience/exposure as described above).
  • Demonstrated interest in owning safety execution and growing into a safety leadership role (we can train the right person).

Preferred (Nice-to-Have)

  • Federal/public works safety experience (EM 385-1-1 / USACE / NAVFAC / VA).
  • CHST/CSP/ASP/STS (or in progress); OSHA 510/500 a plus.
  • Deep high-risk expertise (excavation, fall protection, cranes/rigging, confined space, scaffold, hot work, LOTO).
  • Experience with safety KPIs/leading indicators and reporting to leadership.
  • Comfortable in digital safety workflows (Autodesk Build/Procore, iAuditor, etc).

Compensation

$100,000 - $120,000/year
