Rural Mutual Insurance Company is seeking a Commercial and Agri-Business Underwriter to join our team. In this role, you will develop your knowledge of commercial and farm coverage forms, underwriting concepts, system workflows, and risk evaluation practices while working closely with experienced underwriters and internal business partners.

You will support underwriting activities, analyze renewal business, respond to agent questions, and help deliver responsive, high-quality service. As your knowledge grows, you will take on greater responsibility for evaluating risk, reviewing pricing and coverage, and supporting a profitable commercial and agricultural portfolio.

This opportunity is well suited for someone who is analytical, organized, customer-focused, and motivated to grow within underwriting or insurance operations.

This is a remote position; candidates must live and work in Wisconsin and have eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship.

  • Learn commercial and agricultural underwriting principles, coverage forms, workflows, and risk evaluation techniques

  • Collaborate with underwriters, customer service staff, claims professionals, agents, and other internal partners

  • Service and underwrite assigned renewal business with guidance

  • Analyze account coverages, classifications, profitability, exposures, and policy changes

  • Assist with reviewing pricing, terms, conditions, and underwriting requirements

  • Coordinate renewal changes, audits, unilateral letters, and other required documentation

  • Respond to underwriting questions and referrals from agents, Customer Service, and Claims

  • Communicate with agents, policyholders, and internal team members to gather information and support underwriting decisions

  • Process assigned policy change requests accurately and efficiently

  • Complete follow-up activities, documentation, and quality-control tasks

  • Support improvements to underwriting processes, documentation, and workflows

  • Follow company policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and assigned Letter of Authority

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals

  • Bachelor’s degree in risk management, insurance, business administration, agri-business, or a related field; two to four years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Ability to analyze information, identify issues, and make timely, well-supported decisions

  • Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills

  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to build productive relationships with agents, customers, and internal partners

  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment

  • Demonstrated accountability, integrity, initiative, and willingness to learn

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team

  • Ability to learn new systems, insurance concepts, coverage forms, and underwriting tools

  • Insurance, customer service, agriculture, office, or administrative experience preferred but not required

  • Coursework toward CPCU or another insurance industry designation preferred but not required

Compensation

$54,000 - $56,000 yearly
