As a Civil Litigation Paralegal, you will play a key role in supporting attorneys in employment law and personal injury matters. In this role, you will coordinate case details from intake through trial and assist attorneys through all phases of litigation. Responsibilities include conducting client and witness interviews, legal research, document preparation and filing, and supporting trial preparation and attendance. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced environment with a strong focus on teamwork.

Civil Litigation Paralegals perform substantive legal work under the direction of one or more attorneys in the office. A Civil Litigation Paralegal’s primary goal is to support our Civil legal team, which mainly focuses on personal injury and employment law cases in litigation stages by conducting legal research, reviewing/analyzing/summarizing evidence, drafting memos, pleadings, motions, and orders, as well as preparing for hearings and trials.

This position offers the opportunity to work remotely for the right candidate. However, candidates must be located within three (3) hours of West Virginia, as occasional travel is required for team meetings four to five times per year or as needed.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities Include:

  • Communicate with clients, experts, and other parties to provide updates, gather information, and answer basic questions about the status of the case.

  • Lead discovery meetings with clients.

  • Manage and monitor case progress, deadlines, and important timeframes/milestones.

  • Review, analyze, and summarize evidence (such as crash reports, medical records, medical bills, subrogation liens, employment files, workers' compensation files, unemployment compensation files, and other various documents received throughout the pre-litigation and litigation process).

  • Draft documents such as letters, chronologies, summaries, damage calculations, complaints, motions, responses, replies, discovery requests and responses, orders, notices, mediation statements, and other various documents needed throughout the litigation process.

  • Negotiate subrogation liens and repayment of clients’ medical bills.

  • Help attorneys prepare cases for depositions, mediations, hearings, and trials.

  • Coordinate witness testimony and draft subpoenas.

  • Research laws and judicial decisions about current as well as past cases.

  • Assist attorneys with conducting research on clients, defendants, and/or witnesses as requested

  • Assist attorneys with proofreading and finalizing documents for filing.

  • Assist attorneys in the courtroom.

  • Maintain records and information in our digital case management system.

  • Assist with case wrap-up after settlements. In personal injury cases, verify/negotiate, under the supervision of attorneys, subrogation liens, outstanding medical bills, negotiate reductions on medical bills, track reductions in the medical specials sheet, draft Exhibit B of settlement statement, draft letters to accompany checks for final payment of liens and bills as directed by attorney.

  • Enter time in the case management system on a daily basis.

  • Ensure that clients receive case status updates on a routine and monthly basis.

  • Attend quarterly case status meetings.

  • Assist the Civil team in meeting monthly goals.

  • Meet all court-ordered deadlines.

  • Experience in civil litigation, particularly in personal injury and employment law.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients, experts, and legal teams to provide updates and gather necessary information.

  • Proven track record of managing case progress, deadlines, and important milestones with precision.

  • Skilled in reviewing, analyzing, and summarizing various legal documents and evidence.

  • Proficiency in drafting legal documents such as complaints, motions, and discovery requests.

  • Experience in negotiating subrogation liens and medical bill repayments.

  • Ability to assist attorneys in preparing for depositions, mediations, hearings, and trials with thoroughness and attention to detail.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy to produce error-free, quality documentation.

  • 2-3 years of paralegal experience.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.

  • Working knowledge of practice management software and tracking billable time per case.

  • Problem-solving.

  • Ability to follow directions and procedures.

  • Time management, the ability to prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

Compensation

$45,000 - $55,000 annually including performance bonuses
