Responsibilities
Essential Duties
Measure and mark cutting lines on materials, using a ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge
Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment
Verify the trueness of the structure
Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws
Study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layouts and determine the dimensions and materials required
Assemble and fasten materials to make frameworks or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue
Build or repair cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, or other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, carpenter's hand tools, or power tools
Erect scaffolding or ladders for assembling structures above ground level
Install horizontal and vertical studs to frames to attach wallboards
Cut tidy openings into boards for electrical outlets, vents, and fixtures
Install framing and decorative trim for windows, doorways, and vents
Supervise general construction workers when required
Assist supervisors with structural design, planning, layout, and installation
Clean and prepare construction sites
Loading and unloading materials and equipment
Ensure tasks are completed to deadlines
Perform additional assignments per the supervisor’s direction
Secondary Duties
Assist Superintendents and/or Project Management with the selection and purchase of lumber or other required materials
Maintain records, document actions, and present written progress reports.
Assist the Superintendent and/or Project Management with arranging subcontractors to deal with special areas, such as heating or electrical wiring work
Attend meetings and workshops
Perform other job-related duties, as required
Supervisory Responsibilities
Assist Superintendents/Foremen with leading and training laborers, apprentices, and new hires
- Ensure roofing, floorings, and drywall are compatible and level
- Quantify, shape, cut, and smooth carpentry materials
- Sculpt and piece together siding, drywall, kitchen cabinets, and furniture
- Inspect, maintain and repair structures
- Build door and window frames, stairways, rafters, and partitions
Qualifications
Requirements:
Own power tools
Cell phone with internet
Personal protective equipment, steel-toed boots, sound and dust protection
Reliable transportation
Works well in a small team environment and can take directions
Follows all OSHA and company safety requirements without question
Follows all company operations standards, policies, and processes
Detail-oriented and shows pride in their work
Positive outlook even when challenged with physically or mentally demanding situations
Willing to ask questions if uncertain
The candidate needs to be organized
Education
This position requires some high school education and 4 to 5 years of previous experience
A high school diploma (or GED or high school equivalence certificate) is preferred
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is:
Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear
Occasionally exposed to sit; taste or smell
The employee must:
Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
Specific vision abilities required by this job include:
Close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; ability to adjust focus
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred
- Excellent physical condition and dexterity
- Proficient in carpentry tools, techniques, and materials
- Valid driver’s license required
- Strong measuring and math skills required
Compensation
$40 - $60 hourly
