Description
Luther Lanard has an open position for an attorney with at least 2 years of business or intellectual property litigation experience who wants to take cases to trial and is ready to take ownership of their caseload. You'll have the opportunity to learn the dispute side of franchise law—no prior franchise experience required. We provide structured training and mentorship to get you up to speed.
This role offers significant client interaction and the chance to handle matters independently from start to finish. If you're looking for a position where you can build relationships, solve problems, and see the impact of your work without unnecessary layers of bureaucracy, this could be the right fit.
What Makes This Role Different
Build Real Relationships
- You won't just be drafting documents in a vacuum. You'll interact directly with clients, understand their businesses, and deliver customized legal solutions that actually make sense for their situations.
Autonomy with Support
- You'll run your own matters, but you're not on an island. Our team is collaborative, and leadership is accessible when you need to strategize or get a second opinion.
Gain Trial Experience
- We take multiple matters to trial or arbitration hearings every year. We are not a firm that has to settle before trial. Instead, we build cases designed to go to trial.
Reasonable Expectations
- Target 1,700 billable hours annually (including 100 creditable non-billable hours), with plenty of room for growth and performance-based bonuses. You'll also receive origination credit for the business you bring in.
Flexibility That Actually Exists
- Work from home on Thursdays and Fridays. We trust you to manage your time and deliver results without micromanagement.
A Culture You'll Appreciate
- We maintain high standards while fostering a supportive environment that includes team events, genuine camaraderie, and the understanding that life exists outside of work.
Responsibilities
What You'll Do
Own Your Cases
- Independently handle litigation and pre-lawsuit dispute matters from initial client contact through resolution.
- Identify claims and help clients navigate their options with clear, strategic advice.
- For prelawsuit disputes: draft demand letters, attend mediations and negotiate resolutions for clients.
- For active litigation: draft pleadings, take depositions and develop cases for trial or arbitration hearings.
- Effectively confer with franchisors and opposing counsel.
- Set and manage client expectations with professionalism and clarity.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Licensed and in good standing with the State Bar.
- Minimum 2 years of legal experience in business or intellectual property litigation.
The Attributes That Matter:
- Responsive and reliable – clients and colleagues can count on you to follow through.
- Detail-oriented – you catch issues before they become problems.
- Intellectually curious – you want to understand the nuances, not just check boxes.
- Strong communicator – excellent written and verbal skills.
- Self-directed – you're deadline-driven and organized without needing constant oversight.
- Problem-solver – you can think independently and develop creative solutions.
Compensation
$135,000 - $165,000/year
