Child Care Council of Nassau, a private, nonprofit organization, is seeking a Part-Time Bookkeeper who will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the daily accounting operations of the organization. The Bookkeeper role manages accounts payable, banking activities, reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and financial recordkeeping while ensuring compliance with established policies and deadlines. This is a part-time role between 21 and 26 hours per week.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
Accounts Payable
Enter and process vendor and receiving invoices in accordance with established procedures.
Follow up with vendors regarding invoice status and payment inquiries.
Match invoices to payment requests and supporting documentation.
Maintain accurate and organized accounts payable records.
Banking and Deposits
Process and record check activity and coordinate stop-payment requests as authorized.
Prepare and make weekly bank deposits in accordance with established fiscal procedures.
Record and track all incoming deposits.
Review and post merchant service transactions, including Authorize.Net activity.
Account Reconciliations
Perform monthly reconciliations for multiple bank accounts.
Maintain outstanding check schedules and resolve discrepancies.
Reconcile credit card statements and supporting documentation.
General Ledger and Month-End Close
Prepare monthly accruals, including applicable employee benefit expenses, for review and posting.
Prepare and/or post adjusting journal entries and research and resolve account discrepancies.
Assist with month-end closing activities and reporting deadlines.
Development Support
Process and record sponsorship payments.
Prepare acknowledgment letters and related documentation.
Audit Preparation and Record Management
Scan, organize, and maintain financial records and supporting documentation.
Ensure accounting files are complete, organized, and audit-ready.
Maintain both digital and hard-copy fiscal records.
Administrative Support
Respond to vendor and internal inquiries regarding payments and accounting records.
Assist the fiscal team with documentation, reporting, and special projects.
Maintain the confidentiality and security of financial, employee, donor, vendor, and sensitive organizational information.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
At least two years of bookkeeping or accounting experience required.
Strong knowledge of accounts payable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger functions required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software required.
Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
Ability to work independently, maintain accuracy, and meet deadlines.
Experience with nonprofit accounting or nonprofit financial operations preferred.
Compensation
$23 - $26 hourly
