The banquet houseman (or houseperson) is a vital hospitality role responsible for setting up, maintaining, and tearing down event and meeting spaces according to precise venue and client instructions. The Banquet Houseman ensures all banquet rooms, convention halls, and meeting spaces are clean, safe, and fully prepared before events begin, and properly cleared and reset afterward. Working closely with banquet, culinary, and management teams, this hands-on role handles heavy furniture, equipment, and room layouts to deliver seamless events.

• Setup and Tear-Down: Read and execute Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) and floor plans to arrange tables, chairs, linens, staging, dance floors, bars, and buffets.

• Equipment Maintenance: Transport, assemble, and safely store AV equipment, risers, and banquet furniture. Report any broken, damaged, or malfunctioning items to management.

• Space Cleanliness: Maintain spotless conditions in function rooms, hallways, and storage areas before, during, and after events.

• Operational Support: Assist service and culinary staff during events by replenishing supplies, adjusting room layouts on the fly, or helping with food and beverage running when needed.

• Guest Interaction: Deliver professional, courteous, and helpful service when interacting with venue guests and members.

• Experience: Previous hospitality, hotel, or banquet setup experience preferred, but a strong work ethic and attention to detail are primary.

• Communication: Ability to follow written and verbal instructions (like diagram layouts and BEOs) and communicate effectively with team members.

• Reliability: Self-motivated, punctual, and able to take initiative rather than waiting to be directed.

Physical Requirements

• Stamina: Comfort standing and walking for long periods and entire shifts.

• Strength: Ability to frequently bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, and lift heavy objects (often lifting up to 50–75 lbs independently or with assistance).

• Schedule Flexibility: Willingness to work an irregular schedule, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays based on event demands.
