We are a growing Miami, Florida-based civil litigation law firm. Our owner has litigated breach of contract and related business tort (read: fraud, tortious interference, and Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act violations) cases for three decades and is looking to hand over the day-to-day litigation of the cases to someone who really gets contracts and likes litigating the lawsuits about them. We need you to actually know, understand, and have an appreciation for the law of contracts and have demonstrable experience on the subject because we don’t have time to teach you the depths of what law school only touched on for one year. We need you to know and understand the Florida and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure – and by know, we mean you should be comfortable citing to them as part of your ordinary conversation. But you also need to be comfortable working and leading a team because we need someone who wants to work directly and closely with the owner, and the rest of the legal team (meaning the other associates, the paralegal, and assistant) to efficiently and effectively drive our contract dispute cases to the end, which may include trial. We define efficiency and effectiveness to mean you can manage deadlines, prioritize work without creating last-minute panic or a parade of motions for enlargement of time, and you can delegate and supervise work in a way that everyone on the team is working on the duties listed in their job descriptions. And variety needs to be something you like, because we have all kinds of contract disputes that need our attention, from failed real estate closings to violated non-compete clauses. We know this is a tall order, but we know that there are qualified attorneys out there pigeon-holed into a narrow scope of work at a dead-end job. If you want to do it all in an environment that supports you in the decision-making and execution of your work, then maybe we’re the right fit for you.

Obviously, the ideal candidate is comfortable with appearing in a courtroom and understands that court appearances are not only part of the job, but the fun part of the job. Whoever fits this role will certainly need to have a good grasp of time and deadline management and a deep willingness to dig in and understand the details of our cases. We firmly believe that those who have the best control of the information win.

But our ideal candidate also lives in the real world and understands how much can be accomplished by keeping open lines of communication with clients, opposing counsel, and the courts. We expect that our attorneys can help clients to understand and manage the stress of litigation and the expectations around it, not just deliver the news. In other words, our attorneys need to know that we don’t expect them to just wear the hat of the zealous advocate. They also need to be a counselor to the client – and counsel when the time is right.
