Apprentice Sign Installer
Signarama • Charleston, SC, US
Posted 7 hours ago
You’d rather spend the day on a ladder than behind a desk, and you want to learn a trade from people who know their stuff. Signarama of Charleston is hiring an Apprentice Sign Installer to learn the installation trade on our crew, from loading the truck in the morning to hanging the finished sign.
The right person for this role brings:
A habit of being on time and ready to work every day, including the days that start early and end late.
Comfort working on ladders and lifts, and the discipline to follow every safety protocol, even on the easy jobs.
Comfort doing hands-on work, and a willingness to learn tools and techniques that are new to you.
The stamina to work outdoors through a full Charleston summer.
The strength and stamina for physical work, from digging holes for the occasional freestanding sign to long days up on a ladder.
An interest in learning a trade, and the memory to keep what you’re shown the first time.
An eye for detail, and the ability to notice and attend to every element of a task on a project so that nothing is overlooked.
Signarama of Charleston takes on the custom, high-difficulty signs other shops hand off, and delivers them on the date and at the price we quoted. That work sits where creativity meets construction, so some days you’re an artist and other days you’re a builder. You’ll work alongside our lead and assistant installers, starting on panels and vinyl and working up to dimensional letters and monument signs. Our lead installer coached our assistant installer from his first day to running installs on his own, and this seat follows the same path.
This is a full-time, on-site position based in Mount Pleasant, with installs across the Charleston area.
WHAT THE WORK LOOKS LIKE
Most days start at the shop, loading the truck and checking the gear before the crew heads out. On site, you’ll foot the ladder, spot the lift, hand up materials, and take on more of the install as you learn it. One job might be vinyl lettering on a storefront window and the next a set of dimensional letters on a building face. After every install, the crew cleans up the site and photographs the finished sign for the job record. The work is outside and on ladders most of the day, in Lowcountry heat. Hours are daytime, and some installs run late so the crew can finish instead of coming back to the jobsite the next day. Overtime is paid when that happens.
WHO BELONGS HERE
You take pride in the work and want every sign you help hang to come out level and secure.
When something on site looks off, you tell the lead right away, and when you’re not sure how a step goes, you ask.
Feedback from the lead installer is something you use, and it shows on the next job.
Being early and ready is normal for you, and when you talk with the team, you get to the point.
People who are outgoing and up for a different job site every day do well on this crew.

Signarama of Charleston is a locally owned sign shop in Mount Pleasant, and we’ve been making signs for our neighbors across the Charleston area for years, from a banner for a grand opening to channel letters on a storefront. Every sign we make is custom, and since our third week in business, the price we quote has been the price our customers pay. That’s why property managers call us first and send their tenants our way.
We treat each other with the same care. We exist so our customers never have to think twice about their signage, and so the people who make that happen are building something of their own. Our team looks out for one another. When one of our installers was hurt on a job, his teammates finished the install that same day and covered his schedule for the rest of the week without anyone asking. It’s a small shop where everyone knows each other, and the work you do ends up on buildings all over town.
