AI Systems Engineer (Payments Infrastructure + Telehealth Operations)

We are looking for an engineer who understands how operational businesses actually function and can design systems that scale.

What This Role Actually Is

This role sits at the intersection of three domains:

• Payments Infrastructure: Designing systems that manage the movement of money.
• Telehealth Operations: Designing systems that manage the movement of patients through complex healthcare workflows.
• AI-Native Engineering: Using AI to accelerate how systems are designed, built, tested, documented, and operated.

This is not a typical software engineering role. You will own business-critical systems that directly impact revenue, operational efficiency, patient experience, and company scalability. Strong spoken English skills and the ability to communicate clearly with product, design, engineering, and business stakeholders, with the ability to work consistently during U.S. business hours, and with strong availability during U.S. West Coast hours.

• Understand Wizlo's payment and operational systems end-to-end
• Begin independently designing and shipping production systems
• Identify major opportunities for operational and payment optimization

• Improve revenue and payment infrastructure performance
• Redesign key operational workflows
• Reduce operational complexity through automation and system improvements
• Increase reliability across critical platform systems

Within 12 Months

• Become a key architectural leader within the organization
• Own core platform systems across payments and operations
• Deliver measurable improvements in scalability, operational efficiency, and revenue performance

Revenue & Payment Infrastructure

You will design, improve, and maintain payment systems that support:

• Subscription billing
• Recurring payments
• Revenue recovery
• Stored payment methods
• Refunds
• Payment failures
• Disputes and chargebacks
• Multi-provider payment environments

This role requires experience beyond payment gateway integrations.

You should understand the broader payment ecosystem and how payment systems affect business performance.

You should be comfortable discussing topics such as:

• Merchant accounts
• Acquiring banks
• MIDs
• Authorization and settlement flows
• Authorization rate optimization
• Decline analysis and recovery
• Retry strategies
• Subscription lifecycle management
• Chargeback management
• Fraud prevention concepts
• Revenue recovery
• Payment orchestration concepts

You should understand why payments fail, how payment performance is measured, and how payment infrastructure impacts revenue.

Experience working directly with payment providers, processors, merchant services teams, banking partners, or risk teams is highly valuable.

Telehealth Operations Systems

You will design and improve systems supporting:

• Patient onboarding
• Clinical review workflows
• Provider operations
• Prescription workflows
• Pharmacy coordination
• Refill management
• Patient support operations

You should understand that healthcare operations rarely follow ideal workflows.

We need someone who can design systems that handle real-world complexity, exceptions, delays, failures, and operational edge cases.

Workflow Engineering & Automation

You will work directly with operational teams to redesign workflows before automating them.

You will be expected to identify:

• Bottlenecks
• Operational risk
• Manual processes
• Failure points
• Automation opportunities

You should think in:

• States
• Transitions
• Exceptions
• Escalations
• Recovery paths

before thinking about implementation.

AI-Native Development

We are an AI-first company.

You will be expected to leverage AI extensively throughout the development lifecycle.

Examples include:

• Architecture design
• Specification generation
• Development workflows
• Automated testing
• Documentation generation
• Process modeling
• Internal AI tools
• Agent-driven systems

We care more about your ability to effectively leverage AI than your ability to manually write boilerplate code.

Required Experience

Payment Systems Expertise

You have meaningful experience building, operating, or improving production payment systems.

You understand:

• Subscription billing systems
• Payment lifecycle management
• Authorization optimization
• Revenue recovery
• Payment operations
• Dispute workflows
• Merchant processing

You have worked on systems where payment performance directly impacted business outcomes.

You can discuss metrics such as:

• Authorization rates
• Payment success rates

• Revenue recovery performance
• Chargeback rates

Experience with providers such as Stripe, Authorize.net, Adyen, Braintree, Cybersource, or similar platforms is valuable, but platform familiarity alone is not sufficient.

Telehealth Experience

You have worked in:
